†NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN 1988-89

At Wellington, March 8

15-Apr-1990
At Wellington, March 8. New Zealand won by six wickets. Toss: New Zealand. Pakistan were set on the right road, with Shoaib and Ramiz scoring 152 for the third wicket. Shoaib, hitting his first one-day international century, was a spendthrift with his attacking strokes, quite at odds with his miserly approach in the Test match on the same ground. He batted throughout the innings, and his 126 not out, off 158 balls, was Pakistan's highest in one-day internationals. However, Pakistan's 253 for six was not quite enough on the placid Basin Reserve pitch. Wright again failed, but Jones hit his fourth consecutive fifty in one-day internationals and Crowe cast aside the shadows of his performance in Christchurch with 87 from 95 balls. As Crowe and Smith saw New Zealand to a comfortable victory with 108 in 71 minutes, the latter was at his most exuberant, reaching 50 from 37 balls.
Man of the Match: Shoaib Mohammad.
