Alfred Boi Njuguna, the former Kenyan allrounder, has been appointed as the national team coach by Cricket Kenya. Although Mudassar Nazar remains the temporary Kenyan Cricket Association coach, his role is effectively redundant as he has few players left loyal to the old board.
"I am excited to coach the boys, most of whom we either played together in the same team or as opponents in the local events," said Njuguna, whose appointment was welcomed by many senior players. "I am giving back to the game which has made me what I am."
Kenya only have two games scheduled in the near future, both in the ICC Intercontinental Cup, and with the impasse between the KCA and Cricket Kenya unresolved, it is not clear when these will take place.
Njuguna will be able to call on the striking players, all of whom have pledged to play for the new board, as well as many of the side who filled in during their absence.
