Pakistan in New Zealand, 2010-11

Wisden's review of the sixth ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan, Auckland, 2010-11

Lynn McConnell
15-Apr-2012
At Auckland, February 5, 2011. New Zealand won by 57 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
New Zealand's consolation win was set up by some brutal hitting from Ryder, who raced to a half- century in 34 balls and his second one-day hundred in 82. Although the need for a runner ultimately slowed his progress, his 93-ball stay included seven fours and six sixes, three of them in the tenth over off Sohail Tanvir. When he fell in the 36th, Styris and Nathan McCullum took charge, thrashing 120 runs in 14 overs to help register New Zealand's second-highest one-day total in 63 matches at Auckland. Kamran Akmal responded with his best one-day score since May 2009, but Bennett chipped away, and Pakistan appeared to lack the desire to embarrass the hosts further. As their coach, Waqar Younis, admitted: "We may have got lazy."
Man of the Match: J. D. Ryder.
