Pakistan v New Zealand, 2009-10

Wisden's review of Pakistan v New Zealand, 2nd Twenty20, 2009-10

15-Apr-2010
At Dubai, November 13, 2009 (floodlit). Pakistan won by seven runs. Toss: Pakistan.
This was a much closer game, though Pakistan won again, which cheered a large, partisan crowd. Umar Akmal led the way as Pakistan reached a respectable total, then Brendon McCullum anchored New Zealand's chase. He finally fell in the 19th over, leaving an unlikely requirement of 18 from the last, to be bowled by Umar Gul. Styris spanked the first ball over long-on for six, then Franklin lofted the third delivery to long-on, where Shoaib Malik (who had earlier caught McCullum there) claimed a good low catch. The New Zealanders asked for TV replays, which as so often were inconclusive, and Franklin survived, to the Pakistanis' chagrin. There was still too much to do, though, and Styris really was caught by Malik off the last ball. Earlier, a Shahid Afridi six had almost hit Geoff Allott, the former New Zealand fast bowler who is now an administrator.
Man of the Match: Umar Akmal. Man of the Series: Shahid Afridi.
