†PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1988-89

At Perth, January 1

15-Apr-1990
At Perth, January 1. West Indies won by seven wickets. Toss: West Indies. Taking advantage of a fast and lively pitch, Bishop, a late replacement for Ambrose, who was unwell, took four wickets for 13 runs in his first six overs after West Indies had chosen to field. After that it required a dogged innings by Miandad, whose 63 not out from 170 balls included 47 singles and the only boundary of Pakistan's innings, to detain the West Indians. Richards's five overs of off-breaks were something of a New Year offering to a side struggling to survive against the fast bowlers. Only when West Indies lost Haynes, Greenidge and Dujon between the beginning of the fourteenth over and the end of the twentieth did defeat for Pakistan look other than inevitable.
Man of the Match: I. R. Bishop. Attendance: 6,872.
