At Sharjah, October 28 (day/night). Pakistan won by 106 runs. Pakistan 5 pts. Toss: Pakistan.
In every aspect of the game, Pakistan proved too strong. They fielded four bowlers averaging
under 25 in one-day internationals and two batsmen averaging over 35; Zimbabwe had no one in
either category. After Pakistan's costly aberrations against Sri Lanka, Shahid Afridi cut out risky
strokes early on. Once established, he launched a spectacular fusillade of big hitting, including
42 in boundaries. His fifth - and final - six prompted Murphy to call his dispirited players into
a huddle to regroup. Pakistan smashed 89 in the last 12 overs, Abdul Razzaq making a 35-ball
45. Zimbabwe's chase soon lost impetus. Andy Flower scored 51 in 59 balls but found little
support once Carlisle was run out. At the midway point, they needed more than seven an over;
once Flower fell, the result was beyond doubt. The end came with almost 11 overs unused.
Man of the Match: Shahid Afridi.
