Division Two

New Derbyshire captain Chris Rogers led from the front to build a steady reply against Middlesex at Derby. The match has benefited from a window in the wet weather and continues to be interestingly poised with Derbyshire on 128 for 3. Middlesex collected three batting points before Murali Kartik made inroads into the home side by removing Dan Birch, bowled trying to drive, and Wavell Hinds lbw pushing forward in the same over. But Rogers steadied the innings alongside Greg Smith although he was given a life on 27 when Ed Joyce dropped a catch in the gully. Plenty of Middlesex batsmen made starts, but it needed Kartik's unbeaten 33 to lift them over 300. Hinds claimed two quick wickets to stunt the middle order, removing Gareth Berg to a poor pull shot then having Dawid Malan caught at mid-on. Malan had started the day in hospital having an x-ray on a bruised forearm, but was able to resume after Ben Scott was run-out following a mix-up with debutant Dan Housego.
For the second day running rain prevented any play between Warwickshire and Essex on the first day at Edgbaston.
Glamorgan and Gloucestershire remained frustrated by the weather at Cardiff as a saturated outfield prevented any play.

Division One

Rain prevented Justin Langer and Marcus Trescothick building on their positive start against Surrey at Taunton as Somerset were left on 110 without loss.
The enticing clash between Durham and Nottinghamshire at Chester-le-Street still hasn't started after the second day was also washed out.
