South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06

South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06

15-Apr-2006

At Cape Town, October 28, 2005 (day/night). South Africa won by 19 runs. Toss: South Africa. One-day international debut: A. G. Puttick.
For the second match running, New Zealand managed to lose a game they seemed more likely to win. On a two-paced Newlands pitch South Africa were restricted to 201, which owed much to a perky 40 from Boucher and an adhesive 51 - from 94 balls and containing only two boundaries - by Kallis, who had been on an intravenous drip to combat a virus shortly before play started. Ntini made two early incisions when New Zealand batted, and later three wickets fell in 22 balls - two of them to the supersub Boje - to leave them tottering at 137 for seven. But Vincent kept them in the game until he fell to the first ball of the 43rd over; and although Franklin swished boldly, he was left with too much to do. Andrew Puttick, a left-handed opener making his international debut, atoned for his earlier duck by taking the catch on the cover boundary that ended the match.
Man of the Match: L. Vincent.
