Sri Lanka in South Africa, 2011-12

At Kimberley, January 20, 2012 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: South Africa. One-day international debut: S. M. S. M. Senanayake.
After six one-day defeats in a row, Sri Lanka partially redeemed their tour with a brazen run- chase. Dilshan struck a fearless, run-a-ball 87 to start a pursuit of 300, Chandimal anchored it with a composed half-century, and Perera completed a superb all-round performance with an explosive 44- ball 69 containing five sixes. In at No. 6 in his first match of the series, Perera was lbw on two, but Parnell - also in his first match and with Steyn rested - overstepped by a big margin. Perera gobbled up the lifeline and, 13 overs of big hitting later, decided the match with a straight six off Duminy. South Africa's fielding was unusually frenetic and ragged, but they should have scored more on a plumb pitch, after a blistering first 40 overs took them to 247 for four. Smith was fed runs on his pads, and de Villiers, moving himself up three places, produced audacious strokeplay until he was bowled by Perera's slower ball out of the back of the hand four short of a hundred. Then Sri Lanka brought the shutters down.
Man of the Match: N. L. T. C. Perera.
