Stanford Super Series 2008-09

Wisden's review of the Stanford Super Series, England v Middlesex, 2008-09

15-Apr-2009
October 26, 2008 (floodlit). England XI won by 12 runs. Toss: England XI. England XI 121-4 (20 overs) (O. A. Shah 39*); Middlesex 109-4 (20 overs) (E. C. Joyce 33, D. J. Malan 41*).
This was the first meeting between England and a county side since the pre-Test days of the touring All-England Elevens. Again the batsmen found scoring difficult on a slow pitch, while the fielders had trouble too - several catches went down, with poor floodlights being blamed, although the one which Andrew Strauss dropped off Andrew Flintoff before he had scored (he eventually made 16) was so simple he should have caught it even if the lights had been switched off. England were indebted to a sensible innings from Owais Shah (playing against his own county) and squeezed home in the end after tight bowling from Stuart Broad (4-0-13-1) and Flintoff (4-0-23-1).
