West Indies v India, 2005-06

West Indies v India, 2005-06

At Kingston, May 18, 2006. India won by five wickets. Toss: India.
The most startling fact about this game was that it was played at all. The drainage system at Sabina Park was good enough to overcome a severe early-morning downpour, and India who, like West Indies, were not expecting any play, were soon jolted - first by the oppressive humidity and then by Gayle. His 123 was his first one-day century on his home ground, and set up a healthy 45-over total of 251. Dravid ensured it was not enough, collecting a superbly paced hundred - like Gayle's, his 12th in one-day internationals. West Indies had a faint chance when he left, with 43 still needed off 37 balls, but poor out-cricket, including three dropped catches, cost them dear. India sneaked over the line from the penultimate ball, completing their 17th successive successful run-chase.
Man of the Match: R. Dravid.
