Australia secured the series with two games to go, passing England's lacklustre 243 with seven wickets and ten overs to spare, and prompting Cook to question his own credentials as one-day captain. He had batted fluently after winning his third toss of the series but, among England's other frontline batsmen, only Morgan, with 54 from 58 balls, was able to match him. Morgan's dismissal, to a low return catch by Christian - in his first international since September 2012 - provoked angry scenes: Morgan initially stood his ground, and his partner Buttler exchanged views with Clarke before the umpires stepped in. Bell had been run out for the second match in a row, this time by a superb direct hit by Warner from deep point. From 177 for four, England slipped to 198 for eight, and were kept in it only by some lusty late-order blows from Bresnan. Bopara could have run out Warner off the second ball of Australia's reply, after Finch had set off for a risky single - but Warner went on to 71 from 70 balls, while Marsh's unbeaten 71 occupied 89. He finished the job with Haddin, who entertained the crowd by taking 19 runs off the eight deliveries he faced from Broad, rested from the first two games but still jeered heartily on his return.
