West Indies v Ireland, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the first Twenty20 International, Ireland v West Indies, 2013-14

15-Apr-2015
At Kingston, Jamaica, February 19, 2014. First Twenty20 international: Ireland won by six wickets. ‡West Indies 116-8 (20 overs); Ireland 117-4 (19.1 overs) (E. C. Joyce 40*, A. D. Poynter 32). MoM: E. C. Joyce. T20I debut: S. R. Thompson (Ireland). Ireland's victory over the defending World Twenty20 champions was perfectly timed, just 26 days before their first match at the 2014 tournament. Their batsmen won the match in some style, but the bowlers set it up, limiting West Indies to 116-8. Alex Cusack claimed the key wicket of Chris Gayle (their top scorer with 18) in an economical 2-17, bettered only by Dockrell (1-15). Despite Ireland losing both openers by the eighth ball of their reply, Ed Joyce saw them home, helped by Andrew Poynter.
