Sri Lanka v India, 2014-15

Wisden's review of the third ODI, Sri Lanka v India, 2014-15

15-Apr-2015
At Hyderabad, November 9, 2014 (day/night). India won by six wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Jayawardene's irritation, as he acknowledged the applause for his silken century, told of another profligate batting display by Sri Lanka. He waged a lone battle with 118, accounting for nearly half his side's total, and was turning down singles as early as the 39th over, after a cohesive Indian attack ripped through the batting. It was Jayawardene's fourth one-day international century in India; only Chris Gayle (six) and Ricky Ponting (five) had more among overseas batsmen. The speedy Yadav induced edges from Kushal Perera and Sangakkara - his fourth international golden duck of an otherwise run-laden 2014 - with successive balls which climbed off the surface, before left-arm spinner Akshar Patel deceived the middle order with his changes of pace, striking in each of his three overs in the batting powerplay. The match was otherwise notable for three individual landmarks: Jayawardene completed 12,000 one-day international runs, the fifth to get there; Dhawan's third heavy score of the series took him past 2,000 in just 48 innings (the fastest Indian); and Kohli went to 6,000 in fewer matches than anyone. India opened an unassailable 3-0 lead - they had now won eight and drawn one of their nine home one-day series against Sri Lanka.
Man of the Match: D. P. M. D. Jayawardene.
