Australia v Sri Lanka, 2012-13

Wisden's review of the fifth ODI, Australia v Sri Lanka, 2012-13

15-Apr-2013
At Hobart, January 23, 2013 (day/night). Australia won by 32 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Australia ended the series as they began it, with a Hughes century and a sturdy victory, thus denying Sri Lanka the series win that had seemed theirs for the taking at Sydney. Hughes's innings, which spanned 154 balls, was nicely modulated: he worked through a difficult early patch of accurate bowling and some scratchy timing before blooming in the closing overs. Even so, Sri Lanka's target was far from unreachable, and it took some diligence from the Australian attack to prevent them from getting there. The most strident defenders were Doherty, who had barely bowled in the series but wheeled away intelligently on his home ground, and Henriques, who showed his medium-pace had developed to the point where it could be relied upon at international level. Soon afterwards, they were both chosen for the Test tour of India.
Man of the Match: P.J. Hughes.
Man of the Series: K.M.D.N. Kulasekara.
