  • Umpires Ian Howell and Dave Orchard officiated in their fourth and 64th match respectively.
  • Muttiah Muralitharan played his 150th match. He became the sixth Sri Lankan and 47th player overall to do so.
  • Neil McKenzie (120*) scored his maiden century in his 19th match. His previous highest was 58 against Pakistan at Sharjah in the final of Coca Cola Cup on 31-03-2000.
  • McKenzie's innings is the highest at this ground by a batsman and the highest by a South African against Sri Lanka. This obliterates Jacques Kallis' 113* at Dhaka on 30-10-1998. Incidentally the previous highest by a South Africa against Sri Lanka in South Africa was 63 by Daryll Cullinan at Port Elizabeth on 21-12-1994.
  • The 100 run-partnership for the fifth wicket between McKenzie and Mark Boucher is South Africa's best for this wicket against Sri Lanka. This obliterates the previous record stand of 81 between Hansie Cronje and Jacques Kallis at Dhaka on 30-10-1998.
  • South Africa's total (302-7) is its highest against Sri Lanka at home beating the 266 for 8 at Johannesburg in 1997-98. South Africa's highest in all matches,however, still remains 311-9 at Lahore on 06-11-1997. It was the 14th time South Africa was compiling a total of 300 or more.
  • The wicket of Jayasuriya was 61st for Shaun Pollock in the year 2000. With this he equalled the tally of Pakistan's Abdur Razzaq's tally to lead the table of most successful bowlers this year.
  • The catch of Atapattu (off Ntini) was the 56th dismissal for Mark Boucher in his 37th match in 2000. With this he equalled Pakistan's Moin Khan's tally of dismissals this year. Incidentally Australia's Adam Gilchrist with 65 dismissals in 37 matches in 1999 holds the record of effecting most dismissals in a calendar year.
  • This match was the 41st for South Africa this year, which equals the tally of matches played by Pakistan. On just one occasion a team has played more matches in a calendar year than these two. India featured in 43 matches in 1999.
  • This match was 189th ODI for Jonty Rhodes which makes him the player with most ODI appearances for South Africa. Rhodes surpassed former skipper Hansie Cronje's tally of 188 matches.
  • Neil McKenzie won his maiden Man of the match award.
