WICB to review Gayle's unavailability

The West Indies Cricket Board has asked Christopher Gayle and the Jamaica Cricket Association to submit reports on the circumstances that led to Gayle's non-selection for the Senior Jamaica team now contesting the final of the Carib Beer

The West Indies Cricket Board has asked Christopher Gayle and the Jamaica Cricket Association to submit reports on the circumstances that led to Gayle's non-selection for the Senior Jamaica team now contesting the final of the Carib Beer International Challenge against Barbados here.
So far, the JCA has submitted a report, but the WICB is still awaiting the report from Gayle before making a decision on whether he is in breach of the eligibility rule.
Meanwhile, the WICB has advised Sir Vivian Richards, Chairman of the West Indies Selection Committee, that until such time as a decision has been made to the contrary, Gayle is eligible for selection on the West Indies team.
In deciding on a review, the WICB considered that, on the face of it, Gayle could be in breach of the eligibility rule which states in part:
"A player becomes eligible for selection to the Senior West Indies team when he makes himself available for selection to his national side in a competition immediately preceding the selection of a West Indies team for an international series."
In his written report, the JCA President, Jackie Hendriks, stated: "I am not aware that any formal permission was given by the JCA for Gayle to miss the Final."
The WICB has obtained legal advice to ensure that the right procedure is followed in determining whether Gayle is in breach of the eligibility rule.
