Chris Gayle's prospects of representing West Indies again look grimmer than ever after he was left out of the WICB's 30-man squad for a fitness and training camp ahead of the home series against Australia.
While the squad featured a host of other players not contracted directly to the WICB - Tino Best, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin among them - 32-year-old Gayle was conspicuous by his absence, following earlier calls by the board's chief-executive Ernest Hilaire for the former captain to make his priorities clear.
Gayle has not played for West Indies since last year's World Cup, in large part due to comments he made against the board and the coach Ottis Gibson during a radio interview.
The WICB asked Gayle to retract his comments and the batsman has refused to do so.

"The Board requires you to provide a general public retraction of the comments made in the interview in question and the effect it has had on the team, coach, captain and management, and to express a commitment to team and management," Hilarie told Gayle in an email in January.
"If the terms of that retraction can be agreed, WICB will be happy to consider you eligible once again for selection."
In the meantime, Gayle has taken part in various Twenty20 competitions around the world, including the IPL, the Big Bash League in Australia and the BPL in Bangladesh.
He is currently in South Africa as part of the Dolphins' T20 squad in Durban, but is yet to make his debut due to a groin injury.
The other notable absentee from the training squad was Ravi Rampaul, who could not be considered for the camp due to illness.
Rampaul had earlier this month been ruled out of regional matches for Trinidad and Tobago due to a shoulder problem.

Look, to all those who criticize Chris Gayle and call him childish, or talk about his attitude problems..
He has played for many other teams and does not have issues with others...
the people with the childish attitudes are in fact the WICB board and the Coach... the Coach has also had a fallout with the quite and soft spoken Chanderpaul, and Sarawan ...It is documented that Ottis Gibson thinks himself a better batsman than Chanderpau, Sarawan and Gayle ...
And the coach has been asked to apologise to no one. the problem started with the new coach,,, not with Chris Gayle's Test debut 10 years ago .
And If you FOLLOWED the issue.. it started with the Coach, and Hillare taking pot shots at Gayle and the other batsmen in the media and blaming them for the failure of the WI team in the world CUP ..(never mind the selectors picked a horrible team, with no bowling and a horrible keeper)

Barath, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo, Chanderpaul, Brendon Nash, Ramdin (WK & Captain), Russell, Fidel Edwards, Roach and Bishoo.
No place for Sammy - does not deserve to there. No place forSsamuels in the starting 11 but keep him around. Would have like to see Jerome Taylor in place of either Fidel Edwards or Roach.

Not because someone is a good player that he will automatically make a team; discipline comes first. I believe that someone should have a chat with Gayle about his discipline.
Posted by NCassie on (March 4, 2012, 18:28 GMT)Unfortunate that Rampaul is injured, Ramdin should be the # 1 wicketkeeper seeing that he has good batting form now. I think Narine has the edge over Bishoo for the limited overs, but they should consider him to give Bishoo competition for the test spot....No Rampaul so I say play the both spinners. Sammy is not attacking bowler in test....Play Roach, Fidel, Bishoo, Narine & Dwayne as the frontline bowlers. Come on Selectors please play the best players available and those who are doing well at the regional level.

Ravi Rampaul always get the top half of the opposition out , so he will be very much missed .

And why should a person retract a statement if the statement made was true. If they were untrue I assume they would have sued Gayle for defamation by now. Even a murderer is not forced by the courts to apologize to the victim's family. SO this nonsense about apologizing for the truth to be admitted into the team is NONSENSE. Just punish the man for whatever indiscretions he was deemed to have made and lets move on. That punishment surely could not be a ban from international cricket for a year. I do not think anyone is saying Gayle should not be punished but how can anyone back the WICB on such arbitrary decisions that clearly breaches the rule of natural justice!!!! Their decisions are personal, not professional. Imagine if all judges sentenced a person based on personal emotions. Justice delayed is indeed justice denied.

From then I think Daren would have to make the innings stable and come up with good partnerships with the rest of the middle order. Sammy should take responsibility as the pinchhitter of the team. My West Indies X1:Barath, Braithwaitte, Daren Bravo, Shiv, Dwayne, Ramdin, Sammy, Russel,Roach, Fidel and Bishoo/Narine.
