ZC committee probing Utseya's allegations

Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Wilson Manase has said that a "committee of enquiry" is investigating the allegations of racism made by offspinner Prosper Utseya against the board's managing director Alistair Campbell

Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Wilson Manase has said that a "committee of enquiry" is investigating the allegations of racism made by bowler Prosper Utseya against the board's managing director Alistair Campbell.
Utseya had alleged that Campbell had a "personal agenda" which influenced his non-selection in Zimbabwe's playing XI during the World Cup. He also alleged Campbell had appointed white coaches and administrators during his tenure as chairman of the cricket committee between 2010 and 2012. Utseya's accusations were made in a letter addressed to Manase written after the 2015 World Cup.
Manase, in a press release issued on Monday, stated the board did not "employ or contract anyone on the grounds of race".
"Given that the document was addressed and delivered to me and that ZC has since set up a committee of enquiry into the whole matter, it is disturbing that the document has now been leaked to the media," Manase said.
Manase said Utseya's allegations - regarding his non-selection and the appointments of coaches and administrators - went against the ZC constitution and its corporate governance structures. He stated that while ZC worked through a number of committees, the decision-making powers rested solely with the board.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the ZC board works through committees which make recommendations to it, as the board is the ultimate decision-making body," Manase stated. "Where a recommendation is adopted by the board, it is passed onto the executive for implementation. Therefore, any allegations or suggestions to the contrary go against the ZC constitution and its corporate governance structures."
Neither Utseya nor Campbell have commented on the 10,000-word letter as the matter is pending either legal or internal disciplinary action. Apart from allegations of racism, Utseya also claimed Campbell had a conflict of interest in setting up Dominus Sport, the company that ran ZC's marketing affairs during his time as cricket committee chairman, and his actions had an impact on ZC's funds.
