Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Abu Dhabi

Pro Tip: Back the experienced players in what could be a knockout game.
Our XI: AB de Villiers, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Yuzvendra Chahal, Anrich Nortje
Substitutes: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Philippe
Player availability: All players are available for selection.
NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so please finalise your team after the toss.
Captain: Shreyas Iyer
Iyer has had a couple of off days but this game is probably coming at the right time for the Capitals captain. Since 2018, he has scored 214 runs against the Royal Challengers in five innings, including three fifties, at 42.8 and a strike rate of 128.91. Iyer has scored 414 runs this season at a strike rate of 123.95.
Vice-captain: Virat Kohli
Kohli has scored more than 40 on six occasions this season and has converted three of those into half-centuries. In the middle overs this season, Kohli has scored 75.09% of his runs in ones, twos and threes, which is the most among all batsmen with over 100 runs in the phase, and with big boundaries at the venue, it is going to be crucial. At the death, he has struck at 205.88 this season.
Hot Picks
Marcus Stoinis: Stoinis' form has faded a bit of late but a player with as much ability as him should be able to up his game for this huge clash. He has been providing the impetus with the bat towards the end and has also chipped in with the ball. Stoinis has scored 239 runs at a strike rate of 151.26 and has picked up eight wickets as well. His strike rate at the death this season is 174.5.
Kagiso Rabada: Rabada has gone wicketless in a couple of games, but can be backed to come good in the team's most important match of the season so far. Rabada has 23 wickets at an economy of 8.19 and a strike rate of 13.2. The last time these two teams met, he picked up four wickets.
Yuzvendra Chahal: Probably the Royal Challengers' most bankable bowler. Chahal has picked up at least a wicket in each of the last eight games. Overall, he has 20 wickets this season at an economy of 7.15. Among all spinners who have picked 10 or more wickets in the middle overs this season, Chahal has the best strike rate (13.05).
Differential Picks
Anrich Nortje: Nortje has bowled with extreme pace and control this IPL. He has probably been overshadowed by Rabada, but his numbers have been terrific - 16 wickets at an economy of 7.94. He has been at his best in the middle overs when the Royal Challengers' best batsmen will probably be batting - six wickets at an economy of 8.41 and a strike rate of 10.3.
Devdutt Padikkal: Padikkal has been a revelation for the Royal Challengers this season. He is their second highest run-getter with 422 runs at a strike rate of 127.1. He has been very consistent scoring 30 or more in majority of the games and also has four fifties.
Alternate Scenarios
  • Given four out of the last five games at the venue have been won by the team batting second, choose your captain from the team chasing.
  • Shikhar Dhawan has been off colour in the last few games and averages only 22.6 against the Royal Challengers since 2018. An alternate option is Rishabh Pant.
  • Axar Patel will most probably get back into the team for Pravin Dubey. If the Capitals bowl first, pick him over Stoinis as there are quite a few right-handed batsmen in the Royal Challengers XI, and there shouldn't be any dew in the first innings.
