John Reid, the former New Zealand batsman, has died aged 64. The left-hand batsman played 19 Tests and 25 ODIs from 1979 to 1986, scoring 1296 and 633 runs in them respectively. His Test runs came at an average of 46.28, with six centuries and two half-centuries.
The highlight of Reid's international career was his 108 against Australia, which set up New Zealand's innings victory at the Gabba in 1985. He added 224 for the third wicket with Martin Crowe, a New Zealand Test record for the third wicket then.
He enjoyed greater success with Auckland, scoring 5650 runs overall in 101 first-class appearances. He also doubled up as a wicketkeeper during his 13-year career with Auckland from 1975 to 1988.
After his playing career, Reid served as New Zealand Cricket operations director and high performance manager.
