1.6 to GR Adair, high into the air and into Stubbs' grateful palms at long on! Full just outside off, daring Ross to go downtown. The way he has been hitting it, he takes up the challenge without any hesitation. However, the ball moves away just enough and sticks in the surface, meaning that he has to reach out. Clinks it off the toe-end and Stubbs, settling under it, makes no mistake whatsoever. It was fun while it lasted.... 21/1
3 | 0 | 36 | 1 | 12.00 | 9 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 0 | |
2.2 to PR Stirling, cleans him up with a corker! Length ball that pitches outside off and decks back significantly. Stirling does not move his feet much and goes searching for it, leaving an enormous gap between bat and pad. The ball breezes through and knocks back middle and off stump. Ireland lose both their openers in quick succession!. 26/2
4 | 0 | 28 | 1 | 7.00 | 9 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
6.4 to HT Tector, the softest of dismissals! Slanted in full on middle and off. Tector decides it is time to unfurl the reverse but makes a complete hash of it. No power or elevation on it and Williams completes the easiest of catches at short third. Tector will be livid with himself, having thrown away a promising start!. 64/3
4 | 1 | 27 | 4 | 6.75 | 11 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
17.3 to C Campher, goes straight up and taken by Baartman on this occasion! Banged into the track outside off. Campher looks to swipe it away but the ball gets a touch big on him, meaning that he cannot control the pull. Skews up off the top edge and Baartman, tracking it from short fine leg, does the rest. Kruger is pumped, Campher disappointed!. 158/5 19.1 to GH Dockrell, was that off the glove?! The finger goes up and Dockrell walks off dejected! Slower bumper on middle and leg. Takes an eternity to arrive and Dockrell is through his shot too early. Clinks it right off the toe-end and Rickelton completes the catch. South Africa keep chipping away!. 169/6 19.2 to F Hand, two in two for Kruger! Another off-pace, this time on a length outside off. Hand shows his hand too early and shapes up for the scoop. No pace to work with, though, and all he does is offer a regulation catch to Baartman at short fine leg!. 169/7 19.5 to MR Adair, three in the over for Kruger, and this is turning out to be an extraordinary over for Kruger and South Africa! Off-pace but in the slot outside off. There to be hit but the lack of pace means that Mark cannot get enough energy, elevation or power behind his stroke. Arrows it straight to Mulder and Ireland are eight down now!. 170/8

13.3 to NA Rock, timmmmmbbbbeerrrrrr! Slowed up slightly on a length on middle stump. Rock looks for the sweep but the ball is not quite full enough. Swipes at thin air and hears the death rattle soon after. Peter leaps up in delight and that is a vital, vital breakthrough for the Proteas!. 123/4 |

13.5 to RD Rickelton, and the move to change the angle works immediately! Slower ball on a full length outside off. Rickelton backs away, trying to force it through the off side. Cannot get under it enough, though, and pops it straight to Campher at cover point. An anti-climactic end to an otherwise superb innings and Ireland have two in quick succession!. 138/2

12.6 to RR Hendricks, a celebrappeal by Young and the umpire upholds it! Length ball that pitches just outside off and decks back in sharply. Hendricks is caught on the crease and defeated completely by the inward movement. Gets pinned right in front and he does not even bother with the review. He has arguably done his job, though, and walks back to applause from his teammates!. 136/1
