Two young brothers are joining a squad of Scotland cricketers on a tour of South Africa.
Carlton seam bowler Charles Legget, 20, and his 15-year- old brother Peter – who plays for Merchiston Castle School and Watsonians – are in the under-20 and under-15 squads respectively that left the Capital in the early hours of this morning bound for Port Elizabeth.
The itinerary consists of eight matches, six of 50 overs duration and two Twenty20 games, for each team. The highlight of a testing 16-day trip is set to be the final match of the tour, which is against the Eastern Province State age group teams at the local test match venue St Georges Park.
Craig Wright, who is head coach of the under-20s, said: "I am sure our young players will benefit hugely from the exposure to matches against quality opposition in good cricket conditions. It will also provide them with a great opportunity to hit the season in Scotland running; producing some strong performances when their school, club or representative matches get under way."

The much-anticipated elections to the USA Cricket Association's board of directors take place, with many believing that they are the USA's last chance of salvaging their standing within the international community. Three candidates are challenging for the presidency, and in the next ten days we will interview them all.
We start with Kamran Khan, who captained the USA and has been involved in the game as a player, coach and administrator for almost four decades. He was president of the board between 1999 and 2000.

As widely expected, the ICC executive board approved proposals to reduce the number of Associates participating at the 2011 World Cup from six to four.
This was done, so the ICC claimed, to reduce the length of an event which many considered to be too bloated in 2007 from 47 days to 38.
The ICC's 10 Full Members automatically qualify and they will be joined by the top four teams from next years World Cup Qualifiers in Dubai. As thing stands, this means that Ireland have to qualify for a tournament they reached the Super Sixes at last time, while Zimbabwe, who are below them in the official ICC One-Day Rankings, do not.
Alternative proposals, including one which would have involved a pre-qualifying tournament featuring the top six Associates as well as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, were earlier rejected by the ICC's chief executives committee.

Cricinfo has learned that attempts to broker a compromise over plans to reduce the number of Associate countries at the 2011 World Cup by introducing an eight-team pre-qualifier were scuppered by the host countries, led by India.
India were the driving force behind the initial proposal to cut the number of Associates at the tournament from six to four and a restructuring of the competition format, a move ostensibly to counter criticism that the 2007 event was too bloated. But this was strongly opposed by leading Associates who argued that it was against the ICC policy of spreading the game globally.
At the ICC executives meeting in Kuala Lumpar last month, some Full Member countries singled out the performance of Bermuda at the 2007 World Cup as an example of how there was not, in their opinion, the strength in depth to support the inclusion of six Associates. One senior administrator countered by pointing out that there were also many poor performances by senior countries such as England and West Indies leading to many equally one-sided and meaningless matches.
Seven alternative proposals were put forward and this was narrowed down to two – the publicised 14-team format and an alternative tabled by the Associates which was a 16-team format. The latter would have meant that the six leading associates plus Bangladesh and Zimbabwe would have played in a first-round qualifier before the tournament proper, with the top four progressing into a 12-team event. That would, so they argued, have led to a more meaningful cricket for the Associates as well as a shorter and more competitive World Cup.

The first ever International cricket sixes tournament to be held in the Philippines took place at the picturesque fields of Clark on March 8 and 9 2008.
Thirteen teams, of which ten flew in to participate, took part in the inaugural Metals Exploration Philippine International Cricket Sixes, competing in Cup, Plate and Bowl divisions of the tournament co-organised by the Manila Nomads and the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour. The teams were joined by guest star cricketer, the former England and Surrey wicketkeeper Jack Richards.
Balmy weather and lush green surroundings were the setting for the tournament taking place on the huge Parade Ground at the fomer US Airforce base overlooked by Mount Pinatubo, the volcano which last erupted in 1991.
The official tournament hotel, the Holiday Inn, is just 10 minutes taxi ride from Clark airport. And with the the two full size grounds just a few minutes stroll from the Holiday Inn, even weekend athletes who had over-indulged more than usual had no excuses for tardiness, with hefty team fines undoubtedly levied on the transgressors.

This year's Phuket International Cricket Sixes gets underway from April 17 this year, and Mark Burns has all the details.
The Phuket Sixes of course attracts club cricket teams from around the world, along with local Phuket sides, to enjoy the competition and camaraderie of cricket every year at the Karon Stadium in Phuket.
First held in 2004 the tournament has gone from strength to strength and regularly attracts up to 28 cricket teams from the APAC region (including Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, India, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Australia) and the UK.
Star players such as former England Test cricketers Adam Hollioake and Alan Mullally and former Australian international Trevor Chappell have all competed at the 'Sixes by the sea.'

Associate Member Bermuda picked up two prizes in the ICC Development Program Annual awards, making them the winners in this year’s competition. They were awarded the Best Overall Cricket Development Program and the Photo of the year titled “It’s a Catch”.
A happy Reginald Pearman, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board, said: “I am excited and proud that Bermuda cricket has won these distinguished awards, which confirm that we are making progress in the right direction when it comes to our strategic goals. I am particularly pleased with the growth in our junior membership and the fact that our women’s team participated in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Stellenbosch and our youngsters appeared in the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia makes me even more proud.”
Jos Heggleman won the Volunteer of the Year Award for his outstanding contribution to the game in the Netherlands, while the Hong Kong Cricket Association won the Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Award for the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes.
Cricket Indonesia’s Tetrapak U-19 Development Program was declared the Best Junior Cricket Initiative program. Deutscher Cricket Bund did well in the Global Awards, picking up the Best Women’s Cricket Initiative prize for their U-19 Women’s Tournament in Oldenburg, Germany. The best Spirit of Cricket Initiative in Partnership with UNAIDS was won by the Mozambique Cricket Federation’s National Commission for School Cricket.
