The World Cricket League Division Three got off to an action-packed start in Darwin on Sunday.
Italy scrambled to a one-run victory over Argentina after Argentina had seemed to be strolling to victory when 159 for 5 chasing 176 to win. But the Italians grabbed five wickets for 15 runs, including the last four wickets for three runs, as Argentina were bowled out for 174. Din Alaud was the most successful bowler with 3 for 29 while Troy Crosland bagged 2 for 15. Donald Forrester was Argentina's top-scorer, scoring 66 in 83 balls with six fours and a six.
Christopher Amini's unbeaten 71 held Papua New Guinea's innings together as they defeated Fiji by one-wicket. PNG, chasing a victory target of 139, were seemingly down and out as they slipped to 105 for 8 and then 125 for 9. But Amini batted sensibly before hitting the winning boundary off the penultimate delivery.

Ireland aren't having much luck with coaches - the four-wheeled, not two-legged variety. Their vehicle to take them to Grace Road for their Intercontinental Cup final against Canada was delayed...and yesterday, en route to London, their team bus broke down. Fortunately, the local constabulary were nearby.
The Ireland squad arrived in London yesterday afternoon on a police bus, after their coach from Leicester was impounded at a service station just north of the capital.
Instead, they were guided into the London Gateway service station where the police told us they were carrying out a vehicle inspection check. This took place while the squad had an impromptu lunch. However, on their return, they were told the driver was "over his hours" and would not be allowed to drive for another 24 hours and the two rear wheels on the coach were found to be defective.
So much for a day off. Ireland play Surrey in a Friends Provident Cup match at The Oval on Sunday.

As preparations for a World Cup go, this is one of the more unusual ones - entering an Under-16 boys' league. But that's what Bermuda women have done, as they aim to succeed in the qualifying tournament in Pakistan this November.
The Bermuda board has entered the side into a men's evening league alongside the national under-16 boys' league ahead of the qualifiers for the 2009 World Cup in Australia. There are two spots up for grabs among eight teams, including South Africa and Pakistan.
The move comes following a recommendation from Ann Browne-John, the former West Indies women coach, who suggested that the women needed to compete regularly.
The Bermuda coach, Allan Douglas, told The Bermuda Sun: "This is just what we have been looking for. Cricket for women is very new to Bermuda and so this will give us the opportunity to show the public that we are serious and play serious cricket." Douglas co-ordinates two practice sessions a week, as well as one gym visit.

Canada have announced their home fixtures this summer. They have two Intercontinental Cup matches. Firstly, they will face Netherlands from June 28 to July 1, then UAE in a a game starting on July 6.
Two ODIs against Netherlands will be held in between, on July 3 and 4, the same dates as when Canada A are playing UAE in two warm-up ODIs. It’s not ideal to have both Canada A and the full team are playing over the long weekend, but this was somewhat unavoidable, as the UAE having to change their schedule to cope with other ODI requirements. Those changes caused a conflict in Canada with the games which had already been scheduled with Holland.
Ontario will then play UAE in a one-dayer on July 11.

Ken Gordon, the chief executive of the West Indies Cricket Board, has agreed to meet with the two sides battling for control of US cricket in a bid to find an end to the row which has seen the USA suspended from the ICC.
The two factions - the USA Cricket Association, led by Gladstone Dainty, and the regional league presidents - have been asked to come together in Washington on the weekend of June 9-10.

Jersey will host the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 (WCL Div. 5) tournament in 2008.
The ICC’s decision follows a recent visit to the island by a development team to inspect the country’s suitability for promotion to Associate membership, which will be voted on at the ICC Annual Conference at Lord's in June.
Jersey has been an Affiliate Member of the ICC since June 2005 and as such is one of the more recent additions to the ICC’s Development Program. Selection to host this global event is recognition of the successful developments that the Jersey Cricket Board (JCB) has achieved over the past two years since gaining membership.
The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey is located off the north coast of France and has a population of around 90,000 people. Approximately 3,500 participate in the game in Jersey. There are six grounds with turf squares on the island, which play host to a league structure made up of more than 40 teams competing across two weekend divisions, three evening league divisions and two indoor league divisions. There are also a further 47 teams that compete at junior level.

The European Cricket Council has announced a deal with ICC Europe, ECB and Premium TV to make ECBtv available on subscription throughout Europe.
In many areas of Europe there is no access to TV highlights of matches, and this move looks to make coverage accessible to everyone.
"ECB is pleased and excited to be able to offer Europe’s cricket fans access to ECBtv and it is hoped that it will take the game to previously uncharted areas, inspiring people to get involved in this great sport,” Richard Holdsworth, the ICC’s regional development manager, said. "Delivering live video coverage via broadband to European territories has brought people closer to the game than ever before.”

Eight of cricket’s emerging nations will be hoping to take one step towards qualification for the 2011 World Cup when the World Cricket League Division 3 gets underway this Sunday (May 27) in Darwin.
The top two teams from this event will join UAE, Namibia, Denmark and Oman
in Windhoek, Namibia at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 November. The top four teams from the event in Namibia will automatically qualify for the ICC World Cup Qualifier in the UAE in 2009, while the two remaining teams will have a second chance to qualify for the UAE tournament at the World Cricket League Division 3 in early 2009.
