At the Wanderers, Western Province Boland only needed to bat once as they beat the Lions by an innings and 26 runs. A first innings of only 241 cost the Lions dearly as they were bowled out for 219 in the follow-on. Vaughn van Jaarsveld saved the Lions from further embarrassment at the hands of their arch-rivals by scoring 80, the only player to convert a good start into a solid innings. Charl Willoughby was again in the wickets, with Alan Dawson also picking up three in the second innings.
Eagles 302 and 317 (Boje 92, van Wyk 50, Ntini 4-71) drew with Warriors 334 and 151 for 3

MS Dhoni struck a fine 88 as India beat a Kurunegala Invitation XI by 93 runs ahead of the Indian Oil tri-series which starts on Saturday. Dhoni, who scored 86
against Sri Lanka A on Monday, struck six fours and two sixes during his 97-ball innings to help India to 250 in 42.2 overs. Kurunegala were then bowled out for 157 in 36.2 overs with Irfan Pathan, the left-arm seamer, bagging three wickets.
Opening the innings with Virender Sehwag after VVS Laxman's failure as opener in the previous game, Dhoni showed his utility up the order. However, the rest of the batting line-up struggled on the slow pitch - Suresh Raina (29), Yuvraj Singh (20), Sehwag (16) and Rahul Dravid (15) all got starts, but none of them went on to a more substantial score. And it wasn't quite an ideal day for some of the bowlers either - Ashish Nehra picked up two wickets, but Zaheer Khan and Anil Kumble went wicketless.
For Kurunegala, Lanka de Silva (51) and Jehan Mubarak (46) were involved in a 90-run stand for the fourth wicket, but none of the other batsmen threatened to challenge the Indian score.

Rain in the morning session on the second day at Cape Town prevented Western Province from winning within two days as North West crumbled in abject fashion, losing 18 wickets in 86 overs. Werner Coetsee saved them from total humiliation, scoring 50 out of a total of 98 in the first innings. The only other player who got into double-figures was Marc Rosenberg, who scored 20. The main destroyer was Mark de Stadler, who took a career best of 5 for 18 from 14 overs He was assisted by Quentin Friend who took 3 for 37.
Following on, North West faired no better as they collapsed to 84 for 8 when bad light made sure that they would have to come back the next day. de Stadler was again among the wickets taking 3 for 13, but it was Achmat Magiet, making his debut appearance, who did the star turn, bowling three overs towards the end of the day and taking three wickets without conceding a run.
Gauteng 228 and 90 for 3 lead KwaZulu-Natal 274 for 5 dec (Sanders 96, Gobind 77) by 44 runs

Jayasuriya leads Sri Lanka's fightback

Sanath Jayasuriya slammed a thrilling unbeaten 97 from 104 balls, to lead a rousing Sri Lankan fightback in the final session of the third day at Karachi

Close Sri Lanka 208 and 134 for 1 (Jayasuriya 97*, Sangakkara 3*) trail Pakistan 478 (Inzamam 117) by 136 runs
It was a pity the stadium was nearly empty. With a large deficit to erase, and the possibility of a defeat looming, Sanath Jayasuriya launched into Abdul Razzaq and Co. with an attack so astonishing, the proceedings looked like a highlights package. His 97 runs came in a session that captured the joie de vivre of Sri Lanka's batting, and established the belief that the pitch was fast losing all life. Sri Lanka ended the day on 134 for 1, still trailing Pakistan's total of 478 by 136 runs.
With every boundary, Pakistan's chances of an easy victory grew dimmer. Jayasuriya was in murderous touch, and the force of his shots made the bowling look dainty. He pulled his first ball for four, and proceeded to hit every shot thereafter as hard as he could. Nothing could hold him back as he played with the freedom of his immediate post-World Cup victory days. Most of his shots were clean hits, well thought-out and emphatically executed. The plunder had been planned to wrench the advantage back from Pakistan, and even though Marvan Atapattu fell late in the day, it worked to perfection.
Up until then, Pakistan had embarrassed Sri Lanka for six consecutive sessions, but now they were eager to right the wrongs of the first day, when they batted with the confidence of champions and the footwork of amateurs. Today, led by Chaminda Vaas, the bowling was spot-on. They pitched it up and let the wicket do the rest. Wickets trickled through initially, and then began to flow. Then the batsmen took over and played with abandon. After the mauling they had taken from Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Imran Farhat, the fightback was to Sri Lanka's great credit.

Deonarine and Cush star in Guyana's win

Narsingh Deonarine and Lennox Cush guide Guyana to an eight-wicket win against Windward Islands and move into the finals of the regional one-day competition

An undefeated 150-run third-wicket partnership between Narsingh Deonarine and Lennox Cush paved the way for Guyana to ease to an eight-wicket win against Windward Islands and move into the finals of the regional one-day competition. Chasing a modest 175 for victory at St Philip, Guyana lost two early wickets, but Deonarine (83 not out) and Cush (63 not out) ensured that there would be no further hiccups.
Both started off circumspectly, getting their runs mostly with singles, but then found the fence with increasing regularity as the Windward bowlers wilted. Their stand equalled the third-wicket record for Guyana in one-day matches - Monte Lynch and Faoud Bacchus had put on exactly as many against Barbados 21 years ago.
Earlier, Cush had starred with the ball too, taking 3 for 21 as Windward Islands could only manage 174 despite a 51-run partnership for the first wicket between Devon Smith and Junior Murray. Craig Emmanuel, batting at No. 3, top-scored with 34, but none of the other middle-order batsmen even got starts.

Matthew Elliott and David Hussey shared a run-a-ball partnership of 126 to steer Victoria to a seven-wicket win and a bonus point against South Australia in the ING Cup match at Adelaide Oval today.
Elliott and Hussey, the Man of the Match, revived Victoria's innings after Ian Harvey and Brendan Joseland departed early. The Victoria captain Jon Moss said the pair's batting was "very clinical, very professional". "It was very important to ensure we struck back like we did after the disappointing loss [to the Redbacks in the recent Pura Cup match]," he said.
Moss wreaked havoc with the ball, grabbing three wickets in 15 balls with his medium-pacers as South Australia slipped to 5 for 96 in the 24th over. Mark Cosgrove's aggressive 73, which included 12 boundaries, underpinned their modest total.

Michael Powell combined well with Glamorgan's tail to rescue his side from an inauspicious start

Michael Powell combined well with Glamorgan's tail to rescue his side from an inauspicious start to their three-day tour match against Bangladesh A. By stumps on day one, Glamorgan had been bowled out for 380, with Powell top-scoring with 111. But at the midway point of their innings they had been struggling on 148 for 5, after Bangladesh's seamers, led by Syed Rasel, had made a spirited start to the match.
Shadahat Hossain got their day off to the perfect start when he trapped Daniel Cherry lbw for 4, although it was Rasel, with figures of 4 for 89, who was the star of their show. He claimed two early wickets before returning to clean up the tail, but by that stage, Glamorgan had recovered from their wobble, thanks to a 139-run stand for the sixth wicket between Powell and Alex Wharf.
Wharf made 77, and Robert Croft added an important 40 to carry the innings into the realms of respectability. But for the Bangladeshis it was another important day of hard toil, from which they emerged with some credit.

Ben Harmison, Steve's younger brother, then bowled Dilhan Cooray for 20, before Miller rampaged through the lower middle-order, taking three wickets for seven runs.

When Australia began their twin series against South Africa in 2001-02, it was billed as a world championship, a battle between the top two teams in the world. In the event, Australia demolished their opponents, not only on the field of play, but psychologically. Careers tottered, and South Africa were never the same side again. A similar process reached a significant milestone at Nagpur, as Australia beat India in the third Test by a massive 342 runs, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Not only were Indian players outplayed, but their spirits were shattered, as all their gains of the last three years looked set to come undone. It was a great win by one of the greatest sides of all time, and they made it look easy.
When India came out to bat, 542 behind, they looked a parody of the side that had fought so hard against Australia during their last tour there, like body doubles accidentally finding themselves in the thick of the action. Their footwork was uncertain, their strokeplay was tentative, and they appeared out of their depth. The diffidence they have gained from the travails of this season was to blame for that, but so was the remarkable bowling they faced.
