Andrew Salter began life as a promising young offspinner who has been tipped to fill the boots of Robert Croft at Glamorgan. He could not have made a better start after taking a wicket with his first ball on his County Championship debut in August 2013 at Swansea; a feat not achieved by a Glamorgan player for 56 years and which has only happened three times in the club's history.

He struggled to meet expectations with the ball, even with Croft established as 1st XI coach in 2016, but was resourceful enough to improve his batting and by the end of 2017, when he made more half-centuries for Glamorgan in the Championship than any other player, his cautious style taking him to second in the county batting averages, he was being referred to as an "offspinner-turned-batsman".

While his red-ball game may not have developed as he might have hoped, he remains a useful white-ball spinner, topping Glamorgan's wicket-taking charts in the 2019 T20 Blast and often operating in the powerplay.

Salter, born in Pembrokeshire, made his Glamorgan 2nd XI debut in 2010 and also appeared for Wales Minor Counties and Cardiff MCCU, for whom he made his first-class debut in 2012 against Somerset at Taunton. Also that summer he made his limited-overs debut and a year later became a feature of Glamorgan's Yorkshire Bank 40 side that reached the final. He became a regular player over the next two years and spent his winters playing grade cricket in Sydney as part of an ECB development programme.

He is a biking enthusiast, and is part of the management team of a motorcycle club alongside Welsh international rugby player George North.
