Dan Mousley

Dan Mousley was 23 when he made his England white-ball debuts in the Caribbean, replacing his Warwickshire team-mate Moeen Ali as an allrounder who bats left-handed and bowls offbreaks. His domestic record was unremarkable, but England's management were impressed by his versatility and competitiveness.

Mousley was brought up in Nether Whitacre, a village outside Birmingham, and attended Bablake School in Coventry. He is an Aston Villa season-ticket holder with an unmistakable Brummie accent and is a product of the Warwickshire academy. He was also part of the England pathway and went to the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in early 2020, hitting a century in the Plate final against Sri Lanka.

He signed his first professional contract at Warwickshire in 2019 and made his first-class debut the same year, hitting a maiden half-century the following season when batting alongside the retiring Ian Bell. He showed glimpses of his potential over the next three years, earning contracts in the Hundred, the ILT20 and the PSL and an England Lions call-up, but 2024 proved a breakthrough year. Mousley was promoted up the order to No. 3 in the T20 Blast and put together an impressive season, then showed off his idiosyncratic fast offspin in the Hundred with a remarkable spell of death bowling against Trent Rockets. With an average speed of 109kph, Mousley is thought to be the fastest spinner in the world and can bowl in all three phases of an innings.

He remains a work in progress in red-ball cricket, but a century for England Lions against India A in May 2025 hinted at his potential.
