Frank Pinch entered Glamorgan`s record books in 1921 by scoring a century on his first-class debut for the Welsh county, with the Cornish-born batsman struck an unbeaten 138* against Worcestershire at Swansea - a feat not repeated until Matthew Maynard burst onto the scene with a debut hundred against Yorkshire in 1985.

Pinch had previously shown promise in club cricket for Barry, and had appeared in six games during 1920 for Glamorgan in the Welsh county's final season as a Minor County, and in the match against Wiltshire at Marlborough, he scored a maiden century for the Welsh side. At the time, he was teaching in Kent, but he retained his links with the Glamorgan officials and agreed to play during his school holidays in 1921. However, he failed to score anopther century, and in fact, only scored two more half-centuries in 40 subsequent appearances, with 55 against the 1923 West Indians and 64 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in August 1924. Even so, he continued to be a heavy scorer in club cricket, and also played for Wales in 1924, and for Sir Julian Cahn's XI in 1927 and 1928. (Submitted by Andrew Hignell - June 2000).
