Ian Allen was possibly not Test standard, but good wicket-taking form in the 1990-91 season for Windward Islands and for representative sides when Australia came touring earned Allen a ticket on the tour of England in 1991. He was far from impressive in the many tour games the West Indians played in the lead up to the Test series, but once Patrick Patterson picked up an injury, he got in for the second and third Tests of the five-match series. He was only filling in but, to be fair, didn't do too badly. And, in the third Test, his second and last, picked up a crucial wicket, that of last man David Lawrence, to end a 48-run last-wicket stand in England's second innings, which had been threatening to take the game towards a stalemate. Allen continued to play till 1997 and later coached Windward Islands.
