A top-order batter and a useful left-arm spinner, Milton Shumba represented Zimbabwe in three Under-19 World Cups: 2016, 2018 and 2020. He did not play a game in 2016 but was the second and third-highest run-getter in the 2018 and 2020 editions for Zimbabwe.

Shumba was yet to turn 16 when he made his T20 debut for Zimbabwe against Eastern Province in the Africa T20 Cup. A year later, he made his first-class debut for Rising Stars against Mountaineers where he scored 61 in his maiden innings. He played one more game in the 2017-18 Logan Cup season and didn't play any for the next two years before turning out for Matabeleland Tuskers in the 2019-20 domestic season. In just his second game for them, he scored an unbeaten 121 - his maiden first-class century.

A string of consistent numbers with both bat and ball saw Shumba being picked in the Zimbabwe squad for a white-ball tour of Pakistan in November 2020. He didn't get a game in the ODI leg but made his T20I debut during the tour. He made his Test debut also against Pakistan in April 2021 and his ODI debut later that year against Ireland in Belfast. Shumba was part of the Zimbabwe squad at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
