Zimbabwe-born right-arm fast bowler Gilchrist made his first-class debut in Kent's victory against Surrey in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy. He broke into the List A side the following season, taking maiden five-wicket hauls in white-ball and red-ball formats, including 5 for 38 against Worcester in the Championship.

In 2022 he was Kent's leading wicket-taker in the Championship with 33 from eight matches and was part of the Spitfires' One-Day Cup-winning side, taking 3 for 65 in the final against Lancashire. He earned a call-up to the England Lions squad for their red-ball tour of Sri Lanka in January 2023.
