A bit of a late bloomer, Shermon Lewis was among the wickets after earning his first-class debut for Windward Islands in March 2017, but there didn't seem to be anything special about him at that stage. It took him until his seventh first-class match - in his second season - to get his first five-for, 5 for 64 vs Trinidad & Tobago, but the eye-catching performance came in July 2018 when he picked up back-to-back four-fors in a four-day game for West Indies A against India A. And when Alzarri Joseph had to pull out of the 2018-19 Test tour of India because of a stress fracture in the back, the selectors turned to Lewis. He got a Test debut immediately, playing the first Test in Rajkot, remembered for the dashing 134 from Prithvi Shaw, also on debut, in an innings win for India. Lewis returned 2 for 93 in West Indies' only bowling innings. The second Test came not long after, when West Indies visited Bangladesh, in Dhaka, in another innings loss for West Indies, where Lewis got 1 for 69. He was also given a go in ODI cricket, in the absence of some first-choice players, against Netherlands in Amstelveen on the 2022 tour, when he picked up three wickets in a 20-run win.
