Weir, Harold Stanley, who died in Maryborough on June 11, 2002, aged 98, had been Queensland's oldest living first-class cricketer. A left-handed allrounder, Stan Weir played for them only once, against MCC in 1928-29 - their first victory over an English side in eight attempts.

Queensland Gained their first victory over an English touring team in the match played at the Brisbane Cricket Ground from November 29 to December 2, 1929. Perhaps it was somewhat fortunate that the match was even played for the tourists had requested that it be cancelled due to injuries to several of their players. The request met with a firm refusal from the Queensland Cricket Association but they in turn found some difficulty in finding an eleven to field for the match. A number of players had announced their unavailability prior to selection while others withdrew after selection. Roy Higgins had been brought into the team as a replacement for Cecil Thompson who had announced he was unable to participate due to examinations being held at the Central Practising School where he was then teaching. Higgins then withdrew from the team as he was unable to obtain leave from his place of employment. The player selected to replace Higgins was Maryborough all rounder Stan Weir, set to make his only first-class appearance.

Earlier in the season of 1929-30 Stan had been selected a member of the Queensland Colts team for the match against New South Wales Colts played in Sydney, only the second match to be played between these two teams. In the Colts match Stan batted at number three, coming to the crease after Roy Levy and EF (Ted) Hubbard had opened with 112 runs. He batted impressively for 36 helping Levy to add 61 runs for the second wicket, and then being third out, run out at 184. It was a high scoring match and the Queenslanders did not get a second turn at the creases until well into the third and final day of the game. Again Stan batted at number three and scored another 36 of the 58 runs added in the course of his stay. During the New South Wales Colts innings which reached a total of 477 he sent down fourteen overs costing 63 runs but failed to capture a wicket.

In the match against the Englishmen he scored just three runs, coming to the wicket at No.6 with the total at four for 153 and chasing a total of 171. Queensland finished with a first innings of 248 and then dismissed the tourists a second time for 259. Set 183 to win Queensland obtained the runs for the loss of five wickets. Stan was not asked to bat in the second innings and he did not bowl in the match.
