Yasir Ali

An aggressive middle-order batter, Yasir Ali made meaningful contributions in two iconic overseas wins for Bangladesh, but a lack of big scores left him in the lurch less than two years after his international debut in 2021.

Born and raised in Chattogram, Yasir travelled the age-group route in Bangladesh, and became a regular in first-class and one-day cricket. He did his time on the domestic circuit before the national selectors started picking him in Bangladesh squads after the Covid-19 pandemic. He averaged 50.37 in 57 first-class matches before his international debut.

When he got his first cap in November 2021, nine months after his first selection in a Bangladesh squad, Yasir had to withdraw from his debut Test after getting struck by a bouncer from Shaheen Afridi in Chattogram. His second Test was the miraculous win against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui, where Yasir contributed 26 off 85 balls to Bangladesh's strong first-innings total.

A few months later, he scored 50 off 44 balls at No. 5 in the first ODI in Centurion in March 2022, an innings that helped Bangladesh achieve their first bilateral series win in South Africa.
