Two magnificent catches by wicketkeeper Courtney Browne added a spark to the final moments of Day 3 of the first Busta Cup trial at Black Rock, yesterday.
Browne athletically stretched full-length in front of first slip to
collect low offerings off the bowling of seamer Hendy Bryan. The first
victim was Roland Holder, out for a well-crafted 114. The second
victim, five balls later, was Dave Marshall for a duck.
Browne's brilliance came 20 minutes from the close which saw Floyd
Reifer's XI at 323 for eight as they replied to Philo Wallace's 157,
on a day cut in half by overnight rain.
Holder's dismissal came at 308 as the batsman searched for a drive off
Bryan, who showed excellent control in taking three for 39 off 16
overs. He batted five hours and hit 11 fours off 222 balls.
Holder dominated a seventh-wicket stand of 97 with Ian Bradshaw, who
played patiently and purposefully for his 36 not out off 122 balls.
With him at the close is 'keeper Corey Glasgow, with a six and four in
11 not out.
Brian Shepherd, with two for 25, also troubled the bats - except for
Holder.
