Tension seems to have escalated within the higher echelons of the PCB with the director general Javed Miandad retorting to comments made by the chairman Ijaz Butt over the former's salary.
Last week, Butt had said that the PCB was paying Miandad Rs 750,000 (USD 8865), and if his other expenditures were to be included, he was costing the board almost Rs 1 million (USD 11,820). Miandad was quoted in the Dawn as saying that Butt's statements were inappropriate and untrue.
"The chairman should not disclose even my original salary under any code of ethics. But to set the record straight, I want to say I am getting a net salary of Rs. 570,000, after tax deduction," Miandad said. "Prove me wrong if I have drawn Rs 1 million in any of the previous months with the PCB as director general. I have been staying at my own residences in Lahore and Karachi and only traveled whenever the PCB asked me for any assignment."
Miandad had quit, a year ago, from the post of director general of the PCB over differences with Butt, before being reappointed by the Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari.
Miandad said he had written to Zardari, complaining about Butt's comments over his salary.
