8.5 Sri Lanka have scored a run out! Kohli pushed the ball towards mid-on and set off for a risky single, Silva at midwicket anticipated the run and sprinted towards the ball, his pick up was clean and his throw hit the stumps direct at the bowler's end with Kohli a foot short 39/1
9.4 lbw!! Gambhir looked out of sorts today! He tried to play across the line of a delivery that angled across him and missed, the ball hit him in front of the middle stump, there was no doubt it was going to hit the stumps but it had pitched outside leg stump so Gambhir was unlucky there, the umpire - Tyron, I think it was - raised the finger in a flash 40/2
13.6 caught at slip! Yuvraj pushes forward at a delivery which angles across him from a good length, he plays the ball with hard hands and the outside edge flies to Jayawardene who takes it easily at first slip, fantastic bowling from Kulasekara, he's been spot on today and troubled every batsman 62/3
34.5 massive mix up and Raina is run out!! Dhoni pushed the ball off the front foot towards cover, he set off for the single immediately and Raina responded too, Dilshan ran in quickly towards the ball and that caused Dhoni and Raina to pause, Raina saw Dhoni coming through for the run, he then began to run towards the batsman's end but was caught short by an accurate throw from Dilshan, Sangakkara broke the stumps and they didn't even need the third umpire, I don't think there was a single in that, poor call 145/5
22.5 caught!! Mendis strikes! Badrinath tries to take Mendis on, he charges and tries to hit over the off side, he gets too far away from the ball and throws his bat at it, he connects with the bottom and hits it flat and straight to Vaas at mid-off 91/4
48.3 Mendis' day has rapidly got better! He bowls a full and straight ball, Dhoni charges down the track and tries to hit him over the off side, he doesn't get any elevation and hits the ball flat and low towards Jayawardene who tumbles forward while taking the catch at cover 229/8
45.5 caught! Sharma comes on to the front foot and tries to loft over the leg side, Thushara bowls a slower one and Sharma is early on the shot, he gets a top edge that goes high in the air towards cover where Kapugedera settles under the catch and judges it well 212/6
48.2 caught! Harbhajan clears his front foot out of the way and slogs across the line, he didn't get to the pitch of the ball and top-edged it miles it the air, that ball went extremely high but didn't go far at all, Sangakkara ran a few paces to his left and took a well-judged catch 229/7
    not out
49.6 caught! low full toss and Zaheer tries to loft it down the ground, he slices it high in the air and straight to Murali at extra cover 237/9

4.1 caught! The short of a length ball pitches around off stump and seams away from the left-hander, the width is there for the cut and Jayasuriya attempts to play it past point off the back foot, the ball seams away from him and takes the edge through to Dhoni, Kohli will be relieved, Praveen is pumped 18/1
5.2 lbw! Zaheer pitches the ball on a good length outside off stump and, instead of taking it away from the left-hander, he nips it back into Sangakkara who had moved across his stumps to play the ball, the ball hits the pad just above the knee role in line with off stump, is height a problem? Umpire Doctrove doesn't think so, the ball was similar to the one that bowled him at Dambulla, it hit him on the back foot, it was rather high though even though Sangakkara was on the back foot 26/2
8.4 lbw! Praveen pitches the ball just outside off and angles the ball into the right-hander, Kapugedera moves across his stumps and tries to work the ball off his pads, he misses and gets hit on the top of the front pad, he sets off for the leg bye but is cut short by umpire Tyron who raises his finger in a flash, that looks like it's a bit high, on the other hand replays show it hitting the top of leg stump 37/3
45.4 caught! Jayawardene tries to play the paddle shot over short fine leg once again, this time he doesn't connect properly and the ball lobs over the head of Praveen at short fine leg, he runs back and holds a well-judged catch, Jayawardene goes after a terrific innings 192/9
9.4 another lbw! Fantastic bowling from Zaheer! He pitches on a good length in line with the stumps and gets the ball to straighten into the right-hander, Silva plays from his crease and gets hit just above the knee roll, umpire Doctrove doesn't have a problem with the height and raises the finger, replays indicate the ball would have hit the top of middle 40/4
16.3 caught! Splendid line and length, Munaf pitches short of a length around off stump and seams the ball away from the right-hander off the pitch, Dilshan stands on the back foot and drives inside the line of the ball, it hits the outside edge and Dhoni takes an easy catch 58/5
17.2 bowled him!! Harbhajan breaches Vaas' defences in his first over, Harbhajan pitches a fast ball in line with the stumps and skids it straight through, Vaas may have been playing for the offspin for he plays around the line of the ball, it goes between his bat and pad and crashes into the stumps 59/6
26.5 lbw! Yuvraj fires in the arm ball which angles into the right-hander after pitching outside off, Kulasekara pushes forward and gets hit on the front pad, no doubt that it would have hit the stumps but was the impact on the pad outside the line of off stump? It was a close call. 94/7
43.5 bowled him! Zaheer's done it for India! Thushara comes forward to try and drive the ball, Zaheer fires the ball into the block hole and zeroes in on the base of off and middle stump, Thushara doesn't connect and hears the sound of ball hitting stumps 175/8

48.6 that's the end of the game! Munaf bowls it full and straight, Murali clears his front foot out of the way and swings across the line, he misses and Munaf hits middle stump 204/10

Match Notes

  • Sri Lanka v India, 3rd ODI, Colombo

Match home for the third one-dayer between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo

  • Playing the lead to perfection

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has adapted his game superbly, and it showed during a bristling 76 that helped leave India one win away from their first ODI series triumph in Sri Lanka

  • Seamers and Dhoni script 33-run win

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's half-century laid the platform for Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar to deliver incisive blows as India, after a walloping in the first one-dayer, took a 2-1 lead in the series

  • Orthodoxy is the best form of attack

The success of the bowlers in a low-scoring series has left the batsmen with plenty to do as the bandwagon moves back to Colombo for the last three matches
