Edge to seal the series win. Mitchell swung for the hills, hit the fence at deep third. Bumper arrowing in at the batter, who was making room. Mitchell swung blindly, went for the pull. Got a ballooning edge too fine for deep third
New Zealand vs England, 2nd ODI at Hamilton, NZ vs ENG, Oct 29 2025 - Match Result
New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 101 balls remaining)
Easy clap for the hosts. Series in the bag, one more game to go. A couple of interesting themes, mainly Jofra. Will that be what Cameron Ponsonby will write about? Find out in a few hours. For now, it's bye from me, Ekanth, my report-writing co-commentator, Vithushan Ehantharajah, and our scorers, Chetan Kumar and Ranjith P.
Mitch Santner Great game for us. Started with the ball. Not as much in the pitch as we thought, restricting them to a low score took a special effort. 170, we'll take that, especially vs Archer and Carse. Kane and Ravindra did well to ensure we weren't 3 of 4 for 40. Mitchell loves the battle. Don't want to get him too fired up, especially in one-day cricket. I thought if I'd defend I'd scratch off, so decided to attack. Tickner is a world-class bowler. We trust guys to come into the environment and get used to it.
Harry Brook Disappointing. We've to come back stronger and better, and get a win against the second-ranked ODI team. Wickets are similar to England. Nice to bat on too, gotta get past the first 15-20 balls and cash in from there. We wanted to entertain the world, hasn't happened in the last two games. Got near 400 vs South Africa, hope to do well again on... Saturday(?). Everyone loves watching Jofra bowl. He's a valuable asset and his figures were awesome. I just want the team to dig deep, be entertaining and positive. Hope it comes off this time.
Blair Tickner, POTM: Felt really good, didn't expect to play today. I was having a barbecue and got a message that I'll play. We wanted to take early wickets, boys continued the job off. Good bowling performance from all. I had a bit of a long winter in England. Enjoying my cricket here. Will go back to the domestic grind. Happy to have family here.
Rahul Acharya : "Nz's first Odi series win against Eng since 2013 and first at home since 2008"
Rohantha: "That was some partnership in the context of the match!"
7:58pm "That was a canter, then a few hiccups and then back to a gallop. England lost the game with the bat. Archer breathed fire, which are great signs for the Ashes. Both of his five-over spells were a bowling highlight. Ravindra and Williamson bore the brunt of his attack after Young fell to Archer early. The batting duo made progress. Ravindra built on it. Archer's return created jeopardy as he got the well-set Ravindra for 54 and Bracewell cheaply. Brian Charles Santner then came out to ensure there were no further hiccupsBlai
Pate: "Thats one way to chase down low scoring thrillers. "
Kohli 2022 MCG shades in that shot from Santner. There was one in the SA20 by Marco Jansen too. Just such a pleasure everytime it happens. Santner backs away and has to wait for the into-the-pitch cutter well down leg. He got behind the line at the right moment and semi-flat-batted and semi-drove it down the ground. Just three left
Looks to pull the short ball over wide long-on. Squared-up his stance and swung hard, got an edge to the off side
Tucks the length ball on the pad to deep square leg
Well down leg, the fullish ball. Santner looks to whip it through midwicket. Nicked it t the keeper on the bounce. Oh wait, wide called. Surprises the bowler but no one's bothered by it much
All leg-side field means Santner will go make room again. Couldn't deal with the bounce properly but with no mid-off, he knew even if he plated that lofty drive just past the in-field. Bottom bit of bat
Morris : "This is good od old fashioned drubbing for England!!"
Over the wicket. Bumper. Ducked under after shaping to play
Makes room and lumberjack-cuts it over cover. No one outside the infield. Was a spongy shortish ball going over off. Santner reached out while backing away... like a human rubber band
SamC: "@digger....no need to worry about what's on the shed... gold at the crease"
Free hit is treated like one by Santner. Clears coast, in fact he's sliding while muscling the slower fullish ball following him, to deep midwicket. Clothed
Down leg, length ball goes past the leg glance. Carse almost turned back at the top of his mark as the umpire called that a no-ball. Marginallest of marginal calls
What did Santner have for dinner, think we should all go to that feast. He's batting like an emperor. Waits and whips the slower into-the-pitch ball through midwicket. Remarkable generation of power off the wrists and a side-on stance
Robert: "Looks like NZ want to see off England and Josh in the comments as well! " peak motivation
Hard length on off, defended towards cover
'Bowl pacy, hit easy' goes the Santman. Swivels and helps the shortish cross-seamer fine.
Cal Sri: "Santner and Daryl feasting on Rashid " Yep, proper daawat as they call it in Urdu
Shortish over off, defended towards cover
Defensive bowling as Carse restarts. Bumper around leg, ducked under
Drinks
Arquam: "Archer played for no reason. Should have just rested. Maybe they'll rest him in 3rd ODI. " This game has to boost his confidence, no?
Josh: "Looks like the Kiwi batters heard me and now want to finish this off ASAP."
Pushes the full ball on fourth to cover
Reverse sweeps to get to fifty. Mitchell got in position early and hit the gap to get to milestone off 56 balls and two fours and six sixes
Rashid giving it air, batters sending ball on flights. Carrot ball, as the comms say on air, wonder if it's Amy Sattherthwaite. Anyway, it was looped and straight, pumped through the line. Straight six
Goes back to a fullish dart on middle. Defended back to the source of delivery
Josh: "One more wicket here will definitely make things interesting. A low scoring thriller on the cards?!"
Length on off, defended towards cover
