Division Two

Alex Wharf rescued Glamorgan's dignity with a defiant half-century at Lord's, but he couldn't prevent a predictable innings defeat, as Middlesex wrapped up the remaining four wickets of their second innings for the addition of 64 runs. Wharf was last man out for 55, a knock that included six fours and two sixes, but Glamorgan still finished 71 runs short of making their opponents bat again. The pick of the bowlers was Murali Karthik, who added one more victim to finish with the brilliant match figures of 9 for 73. Glamorgan remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
On a rain-reduced day at Bristol, Grant Hodnett was last man out for 168 as Gloucestershire amassed a healthy 454 in their first innings against Derbyshire, a lead of 142. Graham Wagg was the pick of Derbyshire's bowlers with 5 for 119 from 30.3 overs. By the close, Derbyshire had chiselled the deficit down to 51 for the loss of two wickets, thanks largely to a second-wicket stand of 68 between Travis Birt and Michael Dighton, who top-scored with 42. Birt was still there at the close, on 37.

Division One

A superb second-wicket stand of 218 between Ian Westwood and Kumar Sangakkara brought Warwickshire right back into contention on the third day of their match against Durham at The Riverside. Westwood made 116 not out, his fifth first-class century and first of the season, while Sangakkara was unbeaten on 100, to give their side a slender 21-run lead with one day of the match remaining. Earlier, Ben Harmison missed out on his second hundred of the season - he was dismissed for 92 by Darren Maddy as Durham racked up an imposing 474, a lead of 235.
Lancashire crashed to a 108-run defeat on the third day against second-placed Sussex. Read the full report here.

A century from Phil Jaques propelled Worcestershire to victory by 62 runs over Essex at Chelmsford. Batting first, Worcestershire made 225, with Jaques making 100 from 101 balls. Ravi Bopara took 3 for 27, but then made a first-ball duck in Essex's reply. Mark Pettini also made 0, as Essex slipped inexorably behind the run-rate.
