Michael Klinger struck his third hundred of the season as South Australia won their first Sheffield Shield game of the summer by chasing 334 on the final day at the Gabba. Klinger, the leading run-scorer in the competition with 775 at 96.87, steered the Redbacks as they recorded a three-wicket victory that lifted them to fourth.
Everything was going well for the visitors when Klinger, an off-season recruit from Victoria, was there but when he left at 6 for 280 it set up a tight finish. Aaron O'Brien (26 not out) and Daniel Christian (30) made sure of the success as South Australia reached 7 for 334 with 2.1 overs remaining.
Queensland suffered again from dropped catches after giving Callum Ferguson three lives during his first-innings 132. O'Brien was spilled by Shane Watson on 4, Klinger got a reprieve on 109, Cameron Borgas was missed on 12 and Martin Love grassed the opener Daniel Harris on 0 off Chris Swan. Love made up for the mistake in the same over when he caught Younis Khan without scoring.
Harris and Klinger put on 97 and then Klinger combined with Borgas in a 136-run partnership that set the platform for the chase. They needed 124 in the final session, but had to overcome some nervous moments when they lost 4 for 45, including Klinger. Swan was the leading Queensland bowler with 3 for 56 and the Bulls stay in second on 18 points, four behind Victoria.
