9:54pm That will be a wrap from us for this game. Lots more cricket lined up today, though, and the SA20 is already on. Do tune in to our coverage for that as well. Until next time, from Harshith and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye!

Xavier Bartlett, Player of the Match: Very tense. As a young captain, (nice to have) lot of senior heads calming me down (towards the end). Just trying to back the boys. He (Balkin) is going to be a very good bowler for us. Very different being a bowling captain and hopefully I can grow in the role. Wanted to take early wickets. We did not get those but great that it went out way. Credit to the way the bowlers bowled.

9:48pm Phew. What a game. There were so many ebbs and flows that you would be forgiven if you lost track. The Strikers looked in charge after 7 odd overs, but then lost three wickets in quick succession. Short kept them afloat, with Manenti helping out, but when Wadia tore Wildermuth apart in the Power Surge, it felt a win was in the offing for the visitors.

Until...that was swiped off the menu. Short fell and the rest could not drive home the advantage. Bartlett, from the Heat POV, was the star. He dismissed Short at a crucial juncture and that allowed them to squeeze the game, with Balkin, on BBL debut, then holding his nerve to hand Brisbane their second win this season.

W
Balkin to Nielsen, OUT

That has gone a mile up, and taken! That is all over Red Rover, and the youngster on debut has done the job for the Brisbane Heat! On the shorter side, tucking Nielsen up just outside leg. He swipes at it because he has no other choice and the ball spirals off the top edge. Fine leg settled under it nervously, indulges in a bit of a shimmy right at the end but most crucially, holds on, much to the delight of the thousands of Heat fans in the stands!

Balkin to Nielsen, 1 wide

Oh dear - that is a wide! Short and speared way down leg. Nielsen does not get bat on it, and the umpire has an easy decision to make

9 off 2

19.4
Balkin to Nielsen, no run

Another slower ball dug into the track outside off. Nielsen swings like a rusty gate and only swats away a few flies in the process

9 off 3. Heat's game to lose now?

19.3
Balkin to Nielsen, no run

Slower ball dug into the track on leg stump. Nielsen shows his hand early and shapes for the scoop. No pace to work with, though and he misses

9 off 4. This could be Nielsen or bust for the Strikers

19.2
1
Balkin to Pope, 1 run

Shortish outside off. Pope goes fishing at it and edges it down to deep third

Pope is the last batter in

19.1
W
Balkin to Hasan Ali, OUT

Hasan Ali perishes, and this game goes back and forth again! Some moment to get your first BBL wicket, eh? Dug in short. Hasan thinks he can smite this over long on. Shanks it completely and long on does not err in his catching!

Nielsen lands his first punch now! Short, wide and sitting up. Nielsen unleashes and pummels it past extra cover for four!

18.5

Wildermuth to Nielsen, 2 runs

Short and wide outside off. Nielsen gives it all he has and slaps it towards sweeper cover

Nielsen on strike now. Not sure how. Only explanation is if the run was given....

1
Wildermuth to Hasan Ali, 1 run

oh, what a grab in the deep, or is it?! Hasan is going nowhere! Short ball to welcome the new batter. Hasan is cramped on the pull and he cloths it towards deep backward square. The sweeper runs in and then lunges forward to pick it up. Seemed in real time that he pouched it, but the fielder, after the initial optimism, was not entirely sure. Looks like the ball has bounced, and the third umpire agrees with that assessment, even though the 'soft signal' was out. A bit of drama at the Gabba. The Strikers still in this!

17 off 9. Hasan Ali is a handy bat on most days

18.3
W
Wildermuth to Wadia, OUT

nicked and gone! And is that the game?! Length ball pushed across the batter wide outside off. Wadia's eyes light up and he throws the kitchen sink at it. Only manages a feather, though, and Peirson cannot believe the offering that has come his way. The Heat do not just have a sniff now, they are smelling a win!

Wildermuth to Nielsen, 1 run

Oh dear! Back of a length on middle and off. Nielsen has a mow at it and gets a top edge that then jams into his helmet. The protection near the back of the helmet flies off, but the good thing is that Nielsen is fine

Nielsen on strike now

18.1
2W
Wildermuth to Wadia, 2 runs, OUT

Off-pace on a back of a length outside off. Wadia sits back and slaps it over extra cover. The third is on for all money but Wood, somehow, ends up way short of his ground on the third. Not sure what happened there. Some hesitation as Wood turned, and that was all the Heat needed.

Luke Wood run out (Weibgen/†Peirson) 1 (2b 0x4 0x6 4m) SR: 50

Wildermuth to bowl the penultimate over. 20 off 12. This has gotten very nervy

Slower ball on a back of a length on leg stump. Wadia winds up and heaves it to the moon. When it comes down, though, it is just enough in front of deep backward square leg

17.3
1
Bartlett to Wood, 1 run

Shortish outside off. Wood flays it towards backward point, who dives sharply to his left and stops it. A direct hit at the batter's end, and Wadia would have had to walk

W
Bartlett to MW Short, OUT

Short shanks it, and Bartlett takes out his opposite number! Dug into the track outside off and this seems to hold a little. Short a tad early into his swipe and the bottom hand comes off as he swipes at it. Cloths it straight to long on, and this topsy-turvy game turns again!
