Boje blitz hands Hyderabad easy win

It was Hurricane Boje which helped Hyderabad crush Mumbai by 79 runs. Nicky Boje's 49-ball 88 was the highlight of the match as Hyderabad climbed to second in the points table with a game in hand, virtually assured of a place in the semis. Together with Stuart Binny, who scored a quickfire fifty, he helped Hyderabad post a mammoth 214 - the highest total of the tournament so far.

There was no joy for Mumbai in this, their last game as left-arm spinner Inder Shekar Reddy removed three of Delhi's top four batsman to ensure there was no fightback.

Little did anyone imagine, that Hyderabad would reach such a commanding total after Johan van der Wath removed Abdul Razzaq with the first ball of the match, getting him to drive uppishly from a fuller delivery and hand an easy catch to Robin Morris at square leg.

Jimmy Maher however was looking good as he hit Michael Kasprowicz for two fours the next over. Ambati Rayudu repeated the act in van der Wath's third over as Hyderabad looked to recover from the shock start. But Rayudu fell in the last ball of that over and Maher followed the next ball. Anirudh Singh just lasted eight balls as Hyderabad were reduced to 72 for 4 in the eighth over.

New man Binny tore into Shreyas Khanolkar without wasting any time, launching him for a six and a four in successive deliveries. Together with Boje they kept the scoring rate around nine. And it was in an expensive 14th over sent down by Robin Morris that the run-rate hit 10 per over. And it never fell from there on as Binny and Boje stepped on the accelerator. Seventeen came off van der Wath's last over as Binny brought up his fifty off 24 balls.

And even as he departed, Boje continued the carnage smacking Avinash Yadav for two sixes and a four in an over that cost 24 runs. Kasprowicz finally got him bowled with the penultimate ball of the innings but the damage had been done. Boje's innings comprised eight fours and five sixes.

Robin Morris was the first to depart during Mumbai's chase with the score on 20, run out in a terrible mix-up. Dheeraj Jadhav, the stand-in captain for this match, held up the other end and looked to rebuild the innings with Subhojit Paul. But with the score on 30, Reddy was introduced into the attack. He struck immediately as Paul was clean bowled trying to attempt a slog-sweep. In his next over he accounted for Shreyas Khanolkar and once he had Jadhav caught behind the following over, Delhi were struggling at 75 for 4 at the half-way stage.

Hasan Raza tried to up the ante but failed, holing out to Justin Kemp off Nicky Boje. It was just a canter from then on for Hyderabad. Even though van der Wath provided some late fireworks, Mumbai could only finish on 135 for 6.
