Scorecard
Lancashire captain Glen Chapple drove the last ball for two to tie a thrilling Friends Life t20 North Group game against Derbyshire under the lights at Derby.
Wes Durston had smashed 86 off 58 balls and Chesney Hughes hammered 65 off 32 balls as the Falcons rattled up 190 for 5 - their highest Twenty20 score at Derby. Stephen Moore struck 72 from 55 balls and 20-year-old Jordan Clark looked to have won it on his Twenty20 debut with 19 off 11 balls but Tim Groenewald struck twice in the final over to rescue the Falcons.
Martin Guptill and Durston gave a crowd of more than 2,000 a taste of what was to come by taking 50 off the first five overs and although Simon Kerrigan bowled Guptill, the Lightning could not stem the flow of runs. Durston powered to his half-century off 33 balls and after taking time to find his range, Hughes moved into overdrive after he was given a life in the 12th over.
Hughes drove Kyle Hogg to long-off where Clark not only spilled the chance but pushed the ball over the ropes. It was an expensive miss because Hughes launched the next ball over the long-on boundary and pulled Hogg for another six to end an over which cost 22.
Hughes reached his half-century, which contained three sixes and four fours, off only 24 balls and the stand with Durston was worth 103 in 11 overs when Luke Proctor's throw beat his dive. Durston continued to find the gaps until he drove Tom Smith into the hands of Steven Croft at long-on in the final over to leave the Lightning facing a demanding chase.
Smith and Stephen Moore put the visitors on course with an opening stand of 95 in 10 overs and although Moore needed treatment after cutting the ball into his foot, it did not slow him down. He brought up his 50 by slashing Mark Footitt over backward point for his second six - but the Falcons got the breakthrough when Smith was leg before wicket reverse-sweeping Greg Smith for 33.
Steven Croft kept the Lightning on course with three sixes in his 12-ball 26 before he failed to clear the square leg boundary and the Falcons struck another blow when Moore hoisted Steffan Jones into Guptill's hands. Clark kept the visitors in it by cutting Groenewald over cover for six before swinging Jones over the midwicket boundary.
That left them needing seven off the last over but Paul Horton drove Groenewald to long-off and Clark was yorked before Chapple and Luke Proctor scampered two off the final ball to level the scores.
