Division One

Piyush Chawla completed a memorable Sussex debut by claiming 6 for 152 to help his new team to a 10-wicket victory against Worcestershire at New Road. The home side fought hard to stave off defeat as Moeen Ali hit 124 and added 208 in 63 overs for the fourth wicket with Daryl Mitchell, but once they were separated the last seven wickets fell for 111. James Kirtley made the breakthrough when he had Ali caught down the leg side after a 205-ball innings before Chawla took over. He removed Mitchell, caught at slip, and Ashley Noffke in quick succession and soon added Gareth Batty. Michael Yardy and Chris Nash knocked off the 61 runs needed in 10 overs to give Sussex their first Championship win for 11 months.

Division Two

Chris Schofield claimed 5 for 40 as Surrey ended a run of 21 Championship matches without a victory with an-innings-and-95-run win against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road. The visitors needed just half an hour on the final day to wrap up the win as Schofield trapped David Lucas leg before in the fourth over of the morning then had Johan van der Wath caught at deep midwicket. The match was wrapped up when Andre Nel clubbed Murtaza Hussain to mid-on.
Wavell Hinds hit his first first-class century for more than two-and-a-half years to help Derbyshire fight back for a draw against Glamorgan at Derby. Hinds received excellent support from the lower as Tom Lungley (33) helped add 64 for the eighth wicket then Tim Groenewald (27 not out) joined in an unbroken 81-run stand for the ninth wicket. Robert Croft, who bowled impressively to claim 4 for 62 in 42 overs, gave Glamorgan early hope when he had Graham Wagg caught at slip with the lead on 139, but by the time Croft trapped Lungely the home side were in safer waters. Needing 285 in 49 overs, Glamorgan lost both openers early before Mark Cosgrove and Michael Powell added 126 to ensure the draw.
