17.5 low full toss, lofted to mid-on and gone! It seemed like Charles just didn't have the energy for that shot, the arms didn't flow through and it looped gently to Bairstow running in - chance of a rare T20I ton disappears but that's a cracking knock after a slow start 154/4
10.6 BUT HE CATCHES THIS ONE! Gayle goes, slogging Swann high to the same part of the ground, Finn was the man under it again and he made amends for his drop one delivery earlier by clutching the ball to his chest at long-on and sending the Windies marauder on his way 103/1
13.4 and gone! Samuels made room, the ball was short of a length but not a bouncer, and he slapped it uppishly straight to the fielder at backward point. A brief, ugly innings from Samuels ends tamely 118/2
15.1 and it works, Pollard unable to control a wild slash at Finn, the ball coming back down with snow on it as Wright takes the catch at deep point! Little foot movement from Pollard, he just stood in the crease and tried to smash a length ball, got a huge top edge and not enough distance to save him 128/3

18.3 bowled him, out the back of the hand and Sammy is gone! He was aiming to milk Broad for a maximum over cow corner but was well through the shot by the time the slower ball pitched and skidded on to the stumps 158/5

0.2 gone! Two balls is all it took. A horrid hack from Kieswetter which loops in the air to point...was short of a length, we went for the pull but wasn't in a great position and the ball flew straight up 0/1
19.4 got him, that will settle it! Hales advanced, Samuels fired it it full and wide, the batsman dragged his bat down but missed, was a yard or two out and Ramdin applied the coup 162/4
0.3 gone! First ball! Wright fends outside off and sends the ball to slip...short of a length outside off, Wright didn't know whether to play or leave and in the end the ball ran off the face to Chris Gayle 0/2
9.6 wonderful catch! Bairstow trying to hit straight and he wasn't far from clearing the boundary but Pollard raced around from long-on and timed it perfectly with a full stretch to pluck in the catch. Slick from West Indies 55/3

Match Notes

  • West Indies' winning opening combos

Johnson Charles and Chris Gayle with the bat and Ravi Rampaul and Samuel Badree with the ball clicked against England. But who will play against Sri Lanka?

  • False starts to personal bests

Plays of the Day from the Super Eights match between England and West Indies in Pallekele

  • West Indies survive Morgan blast

England left themselves too much to do after losing two wickets in the first three balls of their innings as even Eoin Morgan's 71 off 36 balls was not enough to haul them over the line against West Indies

  • England's top-order mindset needs a rethink

Eoin Morgan produced a wonderful innings against West Indies, but it made the end result look closer than it really was in another troubled England display

  • Charles and Rampaul prove surprise packages

For all the talk of England's weakness against spin, it was an over of pace that defined West Indies' defence of 179 in Pallekele
