Hauritz you beauty! Hauritz with the deadly throw and PK is run out. It was referred to third umpire,. It was driven hard to left of long-off and they go for the second run. Hauritz fires it to the striker's end where PK is scampering hard. He reaches out with his bat and tries to slide it in. Perhaps, he should have tried to dive in. The ball rushes past him, reaches Manou who breaks the stumps with the bat just outside the line! Australianism prevails. They refused to fade away, refused to give an inch and India, despite a great knock from Sachin, fall short. Just like that last dismissal. What a game. Immense fun.
Congrats Australia, a team battered with injuries has hung on for a memorable win.. Sixty one years ago, at the end of a tour of England by Don Bradman's famous pack, John Arlott put it thus: "Australianism," wrote Arlott, "means single-minded determination to win - to win within the laws but, if necessary, to the last limit within them. It means where the 'impossible' is within the realm of what the human body can do, there are Australians who believe that they can do it - and who have succeeded often enough to make us wonder if anything is impossible to them. It means they have never lost a match - particularly a Test match - until the last run is scored or their last wicket down."
Spare a thought for Sachin Tendulkar. He seemed to have done everything possible but didn't last the final lap. That will really hurt him no doubt but that's that. Australia go ahead in the series.
Milan Beeka: "ODI no. 2923 will always be remembered for Sachin- 17 000 runs and a knock for the ages, Marsh's maiden century and the Australian spirit for winning against all odds! What a true spectacle.:
Hang on for the quotes from the post-match ceremony
Dhoni: "They got off to a good start and we never got into a postion to contain them. It was up to us to chase it. We got a good start and we came in the end due to Tendulkar and Raina. We lost it in our mental calculation, not because of our talent. It was one of the good ODI tracks we have seen in India, you have to be smart. Hopefully we will be up for the next two games."
Ponting " It was one of the amazing games and certainly one of the best innings ever from Sachin. You just have to keep hanging in there, you just have tell your bowlers to keep bowling to the plan. just one bad shot and we could come in but Sachin didn't play many bad shots today! Its really unbelievable how we have played, considering al the injuries. Marsh played realy well.:"
Man of the Match is Sachin Tendulkar: "I thought we started off really well then lost wickets. Suresh and I had a good partnership but in the end, it was disappointing. yeah It was one of my best knocks, the pressure to keep scoring runs was there and we took it very close. I thought Suresh has a terrific talent; he can play the big shots, so if we can get the partnership going, and with powerplay left, the game can go anyway. I care about playing for India, it's a passion and I have been absoloutely honoured to play for India so long."
That's it from us. See you next game.
oh what nervous drama here. Tension killing everyone. IT was the length delivery that moved past Munaf to the keeper. But PK was charging down the track. Manou under-arms the throw but misses the stumps
goes for the big hit and drags it to right of midwicket. He was aiming for the long-on there. He is not happy with himself. Munaf back on strike
really full delivery and Munaf very calmly steers it to third man. Crowd go mad.
And so after a dramatic evening, it has come down to this. The last over.
from round the stumps, back of length, skids in just outside off, Munaf stays adjacent to the line and steers it to third man. He will be on strike. Hope floats for Australia. They will reckon one good ball or even a nervous run out
backs outside leg stump, Bollinger follows him and it bounds off his pad to third man. Munaf has one ball left to face. Can Bollinger take him out? Can Munaf hang on?
moves outside leg, Bollinger fires in a yorker and it just about misses the off stump ... ooh .. Bollingger stares down the pitch
length delivery on the middle stump, steered to backward point and PK screams out NOOOO and Munaf, who had moved down the track, gets back in time
OMG! PK has hit a six over long-off! He moved outside leg stump and biffed it high over long-off. The stunned crowd suddenly find their voice.
And then they were two. Australia rock on. What a wonderful fighting performance from Oz. IT was the full delivery and Nehra chips it straight to long-on! The crowd fall silent as Nehra trudges off. In the middle, a cloud of yellow are in charge and celebrating in the huddle.
More drama Another run out almost but it has been a superb over ... lovely slower one, bouncing away, runs off the edge to point and again, almost another run out The throw comes in and Nehra is just short of the crease but it's not a direct hit. Panic has set in.
low full toss outside off stump, lashed out to third man and oh dear! almost another run out. Pressure. There was a slight fumble at third man and PK wants the second but Nehra, wisely, sends him back.
It looks like Chennai 1999 here folks. Exit SRT and the collapse begins. Jadeja is run out He was run out last game under similar pressure condition and he has succumbed again. It was pushed straight to cover and Jadjea sets for a non-existent single. PK does the obvious thing: sends him back but too late. The throw comes in to the bowler who takes out the stumps. Australian fielders erupt in joy
Drama. First a yorker then almost a run out. It was dug out to the off side, McKay rushes to his left, grabs the ball and fires in a throw at the striker's end., PK dives but the ball misses
goes for the pull, misses but will collect a leg bye
Sachin is gone, the crowd go silent before giving him a standing ovation. Tendulkar moved across the stumps, McKay, known for his slower one, bowled one from back of the hand and it bounced. Tendulkar tries to paddle-scoop it over short fine-leg but alas for him it goes straight up and the fielder takes a dolly. But spare a thought for Sachin. What a great knock this has been. He has entertained one and all with a fabulous innings and taken India close. Will the rest do the job or will it be Chennai 1999 all over again? Can Australia go for the kill?
Sean from Aus: "Australia keep bowling length deliveries and getting hit away for easy runs. We saw Nehra and Kumar bowl some good yorkers towards the end of the Aussie innings but none from Australia so far."
full in length, moves in towards the pad, inside edge, runs just past square-leg .. no one there and Jadeja runs really hard and scampers home for the second run. The crowd love that effort.
Tendulkar gets across to have a chat and Jadeja keeps nodding
almost a yorker, short of blockhole, flicked away from the middle stump line
short in length, on the middle and leg, turned towards midwicket for a single
in the zone outside off, tries to dab it to third man but misses
