width on offer, Bailey smears this over cover point for four, and that is a straightforward win for Kings XI Punjab
Hurricanes vs Kings XI, 2nd Match, Group B at Mohali, Sep 18 2014 - Match Result
Kings XI won by 5 wickets (with 14 balls remaining)
George Bailey and Perera's 69-run partnership is PBKS's highest for the 6th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 49 between Sangakkara and Irfan Pathan
The only time Kings XI looked in trouble in this match was when their top order came out swinging at every ball, and losing some early wickets. But that man Maxwell did the job again, in a low-scoring encounter he again played some flamboyant strokes to score at a strike rate of nearly 200 to change the game. After that, Perera and Bailey finished off the jib.
We knew Kings XI have plenty of power in the batting department, but their bowling was also pretty good today.
Tim Paine: "Didn't get off to a good start with the bat.. with the ball we gave it a good crack .. "
Mohandas Menon tweets: "In the last 10 overs not a single Indian player was on the field just 12 Aussies, 1 Pakistani and 1 Sri Lankan
#KXIPvHOB"
Glenn Maxwell: "I suppose today was a bit tough, they have a very good fast bowling cartel coming at us taking three wickets early, Bailey and Perera have loads of experience, this was a sort of pitch on which it is tough to tell what is a good score."
Kings XI co-owner Preity zinta tweets: "Yeah! What a game by the #redlions So happy 2see how well #kxip boys performed. Welcome Perera & Anureet 2 the den".
Presentation ceremony:
George Bailey: "A terrific innings from Maxy and TP there, it takes some courage to come out when your team is in a bit of trouble and go for your shots. I think Hobart have a very nice team, they lost today but they can challenge. Anureet Singh didn't get much of a chance in the IPL with a broken thumb, he was outstanding with the ball, that one over at the death. We (Kings XI) slotted back in really quickly, not our best game with the bat but we will get better."
Man of the Match is Thisara Perera: "I'm really happy to be back in the side, last year I had international duties so I couldn't play much. Everyone expect me to bowl (well), then the batting." Perera is beaming all through that interview.
Aakash Chopra tweets: "I'm a fan of KXIP's brand of batting...only IPL team that goes on the offensive from word go & doesn't slow down. Hugely entertaining #CLT20" It certainly came off today, and they have opened with a comfortable win over Hurricanes.
That's a wrap from us tonight , thanks for all the mails, see you all tomorrow. Ta ta.
on leg stump, a touch short, an effortless swish of the bat sends the ball towards the square leg boundary, the third umpire is required to figure out whether that carried over the rope, or hit the rope, or landed short, he decides it landed short
looks to clout this over midwicket, inside edges it onto the pads
great take by Paine as Gulbis spears this way down the leg side, Perera was shuffling away from leg stump, bowler decided to follow him but he misses the line
shortish ball on leg stump, Bailey powers that away towards deep square leg, that ball was travelling quick
short of length ball is guided towards deep backward point
Anurag: "An Ishant Sharma over from the Champions trophy finals will do it for Hurricanes.!!"
length ball is driven towards extra cover, Bailey cool as ever
towards deep point for a single
full ball on the stumps, Perera makes a bit of room and skews the ball towards wide long-off
length ball on the pads, all too easy for Perera, thumps this one to the midwicket boundary, no footwork but who cares when you can connect so well so often
full and wide, too wide says the umpire
short and wide, slapped towards deep point for a single
Tamim: "The way Thisara developed his game is remarkable! Nice going pera"
helped along towards deep backward square leg for a single, a cruise for Kings XI
length ball outside off, guided towards backward point, another dot ball
short of length ball is clipped towards midwicket
clobbers this short one towards long-on for a single
this time it is not short enough, Perera can dispatch this through midwicket for four, he loves to swing the bat, connects well, no stopping the ball
short and outside off, Perera swishes and misses, they are keeping it short against Perera
a touch of width, that's enough for Bailey, he latches on to it and crashes it past point for four to ruin what had been a pretty good over, Hilf and Bollinger have bowled out now, only 26 needed off 30 as well, Hurricanes need something special to escape from here
another bouncer from Hilfenhaus, superbly directed as well, Bailey thinks about going for the hook, then bails out
