England underway with a fairly comfortable 32-run win, New Zealand never recovering from a sluggish start, although you wonder what might have happened had Jacob Oram come in with more on the board. For England, the difference when they batted was the over when Dimitri Mascarenhas thumped four successive sixes off Jeetan Patel, reigniting the innings and setting them on their way to a formidable score.
We are all back again in two days time, so join us then. In the meantime, from Martin Williamson and Andrew Miller, it's goodnight.
and that's that .. Oram again leans back and looks to thump it over long-off but he doesn't clear Ian Bell who holds onto one that was really flzzing
powerful shot, leans back and thumps that to the right of long-on
full toss, pushed to long-on and neither batsman shows any interest in the single ... which means that New Zealand need 37 off the final six balls.
steered to deep backward point
inside edge to fine leg, Sidebottom chases and flicks the ball back a foot inside the rope ... or does he ... the third umpire looks ... and looks ... the crowd hoot ... and four is given. Sidebottom gives a wry smile and shakes his head
driven to deep cover and another single is turned down. That's hushed the crowd who've been in good spirits
fired in at his feet, it passes tow or three inches wide of leg stump as Oram heads to the off and is called a wide
wide and full, Oram chops down and squirts the ball to third man ... and turns down the single
back and turned to midwicket, a crazy run - they have no option - but they get away with it as the throw at the bowler's end is wild and wide
pushed to long-on and once more Martin pinches the strike
slow, wide and a full toss, Oram has to reach so far that he has to take his bottom hand off the bat as he guides it to wide third man
a much slower delivery foxes Oram
pusshed gently to mid-on, Martin sets off, Oram hesitates, the bowler and batsman get tangled, a shy at the stumps misses ... all the fun of the fair
Oram leans back but doesn't get enough power into the shot and only a single to long-on
back, a thick edge down to third man gets Oram back on strike
pushed into the off side, no follow through, and they take the single. That is a sign that even Oram accepts the game is up.
Martin comes out to bat without a runner ... and despite his injury he jogs to the middle!
full, straight, and Patel, who has repeatedly been stepping to leg, misses and loses his off stump
Warm applause for a super fifty ...
full toss driven to long-on, Patel wanted a second but Oram was not interested
wide and swinging wider, Oram gets a thick edge and four to third man
two balls used for one run ... Oram will have to take risks to keep on strike as he is the one threat to England
full and outside off, Patel chops down and takes the single to deep cover
Patel goes too far to leg, Anderson holds his line and Patel is left stretching at air
Anderson comes on. Oram needs to get on strike.
