Spinners, Goswami shine as India defend 142

The New Zealand batsmen huffed and puffed, and eventually fell short of their target of 143 by 17 runs, unable to tackle the Indian spinners in the first women's ODI in Bangalore

At the half way stage, it seemed as if New Zealand would run away with 2 points from the game. The bowlers thought otherwise. They were well backed up by the fielders as the run-rate was kept under control from the first over. All the New Zealand batsmen spent time in the middle but found runs tough to come by. If this match is anything to go by, the rest of the matches should be thrillers too.

What can be said of Jhulan Goswami that hasn't been said? She took the team from 87/8 to 142 and then bowled her quota of overs brilliantly. Lion heart!

Please do join us on July 1 for the second ODI. Till then good night from all of us
