James Franklin | 9 | 0 | 43 | 2 | 4.77 | 34 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 4 |
0.1 to EC Joyce, (almost) perfect start for new Zealand. A soft dismissal, short outside off stump, almost a long hop, which Joyce swishes at and gets a thin but audible top edge to and McCullum flings the ball high. An easy catch and a real sucker punch. 1/1 15.3 to MP Vaughan, awful shot and Vaughan pays the price. The ball wasn't short enough to pull, but Vaughan tried to, and instead dragged a huge bottom edge back into his stumps. England now wobbling a touch here. 52/3
Shane Bond | 10 | 1 | 19 | 2 | 1.90 | 49 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
35.3 to KP Pietersen, a soft end to a good innings. Pietersen took a stride down the pitch and chipped the ball to James Franklin coming in from long-on. It was a lame stroke, a nothing stroke, and now England are in the deep stuff. 133/5 35.6 to A Flintoff, a collapse turns into a crisis for England. A slower ball and Flintoff does no more than chip the ball to extra cover who takes the most routine of routine catches. New Zealand are almost beside themselves as Flintoff, head bowed, trudges off. 134/6
Jacob Oram | 6 | 0 | 25 | 1 | 4.16 | 24 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
8.5 to IR Bell, Oram strikes, Bell tried to drive a ball that was a little too wide and a little too short, and the thin edge is easily taken by McCullum. Bell got a bit bogged down there and frustration appeared to have got the better of him. 30/2
Jeetan Patel | 8 | 0 | 42 | 0 | 5.25 | 22 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Daniel Vettori | 10 | 0 | 53 | 0 | 5.30 | 26 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Scott Styris | 7 | 0 | 25 | 2 | 3.57 | 25 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
34.6 to PD Collingwood, Collingwood shapes to run the ball down to third man but only succeeds in running it off the face of the bat right into McCullum's gloves. He leaps towards the heavens as if stung by a bee as his colleagues race in to celebrate. 133/4 38.2 to JWM Dalrymple, an attempted steer to third man and McCullum is airbourne as, standing up, he takes a thin edge and Dalrymple is on his way. Great keeping and excellent, nagging bowling. 138/7 |

James Anderson | 8 | 0 | 39 | 2 | 4.87 | 30 | 6 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
0.6 to L Vincent, stood tall and fished at that one with a straight bat, sending the lightest feather of an edge through to Nixon who snaps up an easy catch. 1/1 4.6 to SP Fleming, It's a great catch from Joyce over his head running backwards at deep midwicket. Anderson banged that one in short, Fleming's eyes lit up but he didn't get over the pull shot and he sent that high and higher - the ball hanging in the air for a while. 19/3
Liam Plunkett | 7 | 0 | 43 | 1 | 6.14 | 24 | 6 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
1.2 to LRPL Taylor, what a catch! Flintoff, diving athletically at wide first slip, takes a terrific catch, one handed with his right hand. 3/2

Monty Panesar | 10 | 0 | 47 | 1 | 4.70 | 31 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 0 |
15.2 to CD McMillan, and the move pays off! That's a perfect pitch on leg and turns a touch away as the batsman goes for an aerial drive over cover which he spoons right in the air. A bit of zigzagging from Dalrymple who - importantly - keeps his eye on the ball all the way. Panesar leaps like an exciteable salmon at the catch. 72/4
